Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Climate & Ecosystems Division has an opening for a Research Associate to join the team.
We are seeking a Research Associate to support several funded Department of Energy (DOE) projects focused on understanding soil microbial composition and function in both natural and managed ecosystems. The candidate will also contribute to the development of innovative nature-based solutions for carbon storage and climate mitigation. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental research and gain experience working in a world-renowned laboratory. What You Will Do:
- Help conduct research related to soil biogeochemistry or microbiology, with a focus on molecular biology methods applied to soil systems.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing soil biogeochemical measurements.
- Help contribute to the development and execution of laboratory protocols and experiments.
- Support manuscript and presentation preparation, as well as generating project reports.
- Participate in general lab management duties, including maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe and organized workspace.
What is Required:
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, particularly as applied to soil systems.
- Familiarity with soil biogeochemical measurements and analyses.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred in soil biogeochemistry, microbiology, or a related scientific field and up to a few years of related experience
- Experience working in a laboratory setting, especially in a collaborative research environment, and ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- This is a full-time, career appointment, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.
- This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
- This full salary range of this position is between $25.14 to $38.94 per hour depending upon candidates' full skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
