The Waste Treatment Plant Operator is a Salary Non-Exempt position which contributes to our mission of saving and sustaining lives by operating a state-of-the-art membrane filtration Waste Water Treatment plant. What you'll be doing
Collect samples for state reporting requirements. This can include Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total Suspended Solids, Fecal Coliform, Temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity, Ammonia, Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphorous, and Toxicity tests. Operators must also test process control analysis that can affect quality of water being discharged into the North Fork Catawba River. This requires preparation of standards and monitoring for levels of DO, PO4, NH3 , pH, and Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids multiple times per shift. Operators are also required to collect downstream and upstream samples to be analyzed for temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and fecal coliform. Knowledge of aseptic sampling technique is required to ensure proper sample results. Knowledge and understanding of various lab equipment, including calibration and operating procedures. Knowledge and understanding of water treatment membrane filtration process, and how to adjust parameters based on process control sampling results to maintain proper water quality. Understanding of SCADA system for process controls, and adjustments. Monitor bio-solids level in the system and remove waste activated solids, as necessary, for proper operation. Adjust pump rates for plant flow, to support manufacturing needs. Adjust pump rates for chemical dosing to provide adequate nutrient feeds to the system. Oversee bulk chemical deliveries. Load and unload materials with fork lift and pickup truck Operate centrifuge equipment for maximum dewatering efficiency of bio-solids. This includes adjusting the ratio of polymer feed to bio-solids flow to maximize output. Inspect buildings and grounds for conditions in need of correction or repair Perform general housekeeping tasks Inventories and maintains tools and consumable supplies Document required information on logs Notify the supervisor and take appropriate action if any safety, quality or discrepancy issues occur Learn, understand and apply rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Sustain a clean and safe work area using 6S principles including maintaining and securing provided tools
What you'll bring
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent Must be at least 18 years of age Must obtain North Carolina Grade 1 Biological Operator's license within a reasonably timeframe. This involves: Satisfying the state requirement for wastewater experience Successfully completing a Grade 1 Waste Plant Operator's School Passing a North Carolina Biological Operator's written exam Must have valid driver's license Must be able to comprehend and work with basic chemical and algebraic concepts Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members Understand verbal and written safety/quality instructions. Must read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings
Physical Requirements
Requires the ability stand/walk continuously throughout the shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Must be able to pass the P.I.V physical Normal visual acuity with the ability to distinguish color is required Must be able to squat, crawl, reach above shoulder level, reach at or below shoulder level, kneel, twist and bend at the neck, twist and bend at the waist and balance Requires extensive walking up and down stairs on a routine basis. Occasional need to climb ladders, if necessary.

Ability for innovative thinking to solve complex problems. Will work in an environment which requires: safety glasses or goggles, safety shoes, hearing protection and gloves There is constant or intermittent noise and vibration Due to the nature of this position, a large portion of the duties are outdoors and must be performed in all weather conditions (i.e. rain, heat, snow) This position involves working around moving equipment, machinery and conveyors This position involves work with and around biohazardous material
We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a salary range of $52,000 to $62,400. The above range represents the expected salary range for this position.
