The Patient Safety Specialist works directly with the Patient Safety Officer and as a liaison of the Patient Safety Committee to support implementation of patient safety related action plans and initiatives outlined in Meriter's Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan. The Patient Safety Specialist provides data collection and analysis, as needed to facilitate patient safety improvements. The Patient Safety Specialist also contributes to performance improvement teams using the full spectrum of process improvement tools.

Required Qualifications:
* 4 year degree in health sciences, business, health/information management, nursing, risk management or other related field.
* Minimum of 1 year in a healthcare quality-related field or 3 years in healthcare field with quality improvement-related project work.
* Strong, well developed organization and communication skills, including public speaking
* Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal and professional development
* Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information.
* Current RN or other professional licensure as applicable
* Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of CQI process, methods, and tools, as demonstrated by use of the quality improvement tools and identifying opportunities for improvement, gaining an understanding of the process of care delivery, identifying causes of variation, evaluating potential solutions, and assessing the impact and sustainability of solutions.
* Demonstrated organizational skills including ability to balance competing demands, set priorities, and facilitate a strong team environment.
* Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal and professional development.
* Ability to represent Meriter well within the community
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Visio software.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in a health care profession such as health care administration, MBA, nursing, or other
* 3 years of progressively responsible experience, in areas related to quality, patient safety, performance improvement or process redesign
* Demonstrated ability and aptitude for facilitating process improvement teams
* Experience with implementation of team training programs
* Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, support, and coaching to interdisciplinary healthcare providers.
