POSITION CONCEPT:
The Water Plant Operators supports all station water-related equipment and their operations. This includes the operation of the reclaimed water treatment plant, demineralized water production, cooling tower and steam cycle chemistries. The Water Technician is responsible for maintaining all supporting online analyzers and making system adjustments based on operational data. Provide technical and analytical assistance to plant personnel and engineering staff on projects related to troubleshooting plant water treatment systems and improving system efficiency including system design changes, regulatory requirements, and environmental compliance. The Water Technician must be able to work independently but also work effectively in a team environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that preventative maintenance programs for the assigned area are kept current and equipment is maintained in a manner that maximizes longevity and reliability. This includes online instrument maintenance and calibrations.
- Coordinate bulk / specialty chemical ordering, maintain inventories, and manage deliveries.
- Perform all work assignments in a safe and efficient manner. This includes performing accurate rounds, information sharing, performing minor repairs, support equipment start-ups/shutdowns, and initiating/completing work orders utilizing the Workman System.
- Work closely with engineering, operations and other technical staff on technical details related to work plans, projects, chemical treatment methods/strategies, and equipment modifications to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and water chemistry for the area of responsibility.
- Perform advanced water chemical analysis by tracking and responding to metrics that ensures a safe and reliable operation relative to steam cycle chemistry.
- Provide direct support for all Plant Water Systems, this includes Cooling Towers, Reverse Osmosis, Electro Deionization, Steam Cycle Chemistry, and the Reclaimed Water Treatment Plant Operations.
- Interface with plant personnel to meet all analytical needs. Advise personnel on field sampling and testing procedures.
EDUCATION:
Required: HS diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: A two (2) year technical degree, from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO and/or a bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum 2 or more years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Strong attention to detail, good planning skills, and heightened awareness for safety, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are required. Ability to be exposed to high temperature environments along with ambient temperatures and the elements. Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Knowledge of power plant processes and/or water treatment chemistry is required. Must be able to pass a pulmonary function and negative pressure respirator fit test. Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) on-the-job. Ability to operate a forklift.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
All work will be performed in an industrial setting. Initial hours will be dayshift but could evolve into nights, weekends, or rotating shift. Respond to plant needs with 24/7 coverage.
