CNOS is seeking a Health Communication Specialist to support DGMH's communication initiatives. This position requires expertise in editorial services, data analysis, and strategic communication, with a focus on creating high-quality content for social media, reports, press releases, and public health campaigns. The ideal candidate will collaborate across teams to advance public health communication projects, analyze web and social metrics, and provide guidance on strategic messaging and educational programs.

Health Communications Specialist Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide technical editorial and writing support for a variety of materials, including social media posts, CDC INFO press releases, surveillance and webpage metrics reports, talking points, email blasts, factsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Support and guide the implementation of public health communication projects, such as CDC's Clean Slate initiative within CDC Moving Forward, along with other educational and communication activities.
  • Analyze data from DGMH webpages and PDFs, writing comprehensive reports and presentations for the division (e.g., Quarterly Webpage Metrics Report, Communication Surveillance Reports).
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training related to CDC Clean Slate and Digital First Editor; share key takeaways with the Office of the Director (OD) Communications team.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders-including health communicators, subject matter experts, program specialists, policy advisors, and directors-to identify strategic communication priorities and develop actionable items to support OD Comms and Branch Communicators.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned


Health Communications Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Journalism, English, Communication, Health Communication, Public Health, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) and MS Automate.
  • Experience with editorial tools and platforms, including VisibleThread, Meltwater Social Listening, and Digital First Editor.
  • Experience with Plain Language
  • Proven ability to facilitate group discussions on high-level communication strategies and priorities.
  • Demonstrated skills in data analysis and interpretation, specifically in metrics from Adobe Analytics, Meltwater Social Listening, and webpage performance.
  • Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and communication specialists.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Government security investigation and Cherokee Federal pre-employment qualifications.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
