Summary

Maintains close observation of the video monitored patients at a central monitoring station. Provides continuous surveillance of assigned patients through a camera monitoring system or constant roving to observe the video monitored patients on the patient care unit. Observes, interprets risky patient behaviors, communicates with the patients care team members, and documents in the patients electronic medial record in regular intervals. Oversees patient/staff communications to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Job Duties

  • Admits subjects to the monitoring system; selects proper profiles, protocols, and identification formats.
  • Sets up, checks for signature on the Consent to Treat form, conducts quality control checks, and takes care of equipment care and cleaning.
  • Observes video of patients (in real-time) and calls appropriate authorities if an issue arises with a patient that requires immediate staff response.
  • Informs the primary nurse of any changes in behavior as well as any life threatening actions.
  • Maintains records of each patient's behavior, patient response to redirection, and frequency of redirection.
  • Prepares a list of staff contact names and phone numbers and pre-programs phone numbers for direct dial access.
  • Obtains patient report from RN patient information.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Technology-related experience.
  • Ability to work with multiple interruptions and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to understand and use basic medical terminology.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 30 Days

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of Technical Partner or Patient Observation Assistant training/orientation. and
  • Successful completion of Crisis Management Course.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
