Position Summary

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for various tasks associated with funding mortgage loans in a timely and accurate manner. Main duties include coordinating the disbursement of funds, processing incoming wires, completing data entry in the loan origination system, and processing entries for general ledger.

The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the disbursement of funds to title companies for the recording of a mortgage loan. Monitor scheduled recordings for clearance, and process returned funds.
  2. Process incoming wires from multiple investors who are purchasing loans.
  3. Maintains the Loan Origination system for the information on recording and purchases.
  4. Processes the general entries for general ledger for the loan disbursement and loan purchasing functions.
  5. Processes borrower payments by depositing them into the bank, making the journal entries to record payments into the general ledger, and recording them into the Loan Origination system.
  6. Monitors borrower payment due dates and follow up with letters for those that are untimely.
  7. Communicate with borrowers providing information regarding payments.
  8. Follow up with reconciliations for related general ledger accounts, providing information on reconciliation items.
  9. Assist verifying the accuracy samples for annual form 1098's.
  10. Assist with internal and external audits.
  11. Complete online, written and in-person compliance training within established timeframes.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates Degree or minimum of two years progress toward a Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or other related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Experience in mortgage lending preferred but not required.
  • Related military education/experience may be used as a substitute for education or work experience.

Knowledge & Communication Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to comprehend, analyze, and effectively communicate business memorandums, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards. Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Must be able to perform basic to intermediate math calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Must understand and have the ability to implement applicable compliance requirements.

Analytical & Decision Making Skills

  • Self-directed, able to work independently without supervision, and be able to prioritize multiple projects to meet firm deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to research and resolve moderately complex and unique problems.
  • Ability to make recommendations to increase efficiencies or improve procedures also required.

Computer/Software/Other Equipment Skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as PC, printer, fax/copier, and telephone.

Working Conditions

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment.
