Position Overview

Position Summary:
The ENMU Department of Art seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor or associate professor rank to teach undergraduate foundation courses in graphic design, two-dimensional design, and related courses. The Department offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art with emphases in graphic design, visual arts, and 2D animation. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of both traditional and contemporary design practices with knowledge in emerging media and new technologies. Qualified candidates should also possess mastery of industry-standard technologies and software, including the Adobe Creative Suite. We seek expertise in print design, package design, branding, typography and hierarchy, design for web and mobile platforms, motion graphics, and other related areas of interactive design. Teaching may include courses in Typography, Graphic Design, Photography, Digital Editing, Motion Graphics, Digital Media, Digital Publication Design, and Web Design. This is a residential position with campus presence expected.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching includes a 12-credit 4/4 load (first-year faculty teach a 9-credit 3/3 load) in face-to-face, lecture-capture and/or web platforms.
  • Ongoing scholarly production is required, which may include scholarly and/or creative publications, presentations, and exhibits.
  • Commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the department, including departmental assessment, strategic plans, curriculum development, recruitment, and retention plans.
  • Advising students as well as service-related duties at the department, college, and university levels, and other duties as assigned by chair.
  • Serve on department, college and/or university committees.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Successful candidates must possess an MFA in Graphic Design or terminal degree in a related creative field.
  • A thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software and other relevant industry-standard software.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Ability to teach, advise, and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience in traditional design principles, typography, motion graphics, interactive/web design, and photography.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Experience using technology to support teaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership and enthusiasm for leading departmental student organizations.
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining relationships for student internships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse learning and working environment.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
