Job Summary
Bethel University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science with close connections to the Business Department and collaboration across campus to enhance AI literacy and application.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with department chairs and faculty across disciplines regarding AI credit-bearing programs and associated courses.
  • Teach a full-time load each year, including courses in Artificial Intelligence (such as Machine Learning and Data Mining) and related fields.
  • Serve as a university-wide internal resource advising faculty across departments regarding the best use of AI within and beyond the classroom. These responsibilities will be fulfilled in collaboration with others and will be considered part of a full-time teaching load.
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to students engaged in AI-related research and projects, fostering an environment where students can explore AI's role in diverse industries.
  • Develop and/or maintain an active scholarly agenda, whether through consulting, applied AI research, or traditional academic research, ensuring contributions are disseminated to the broader AI community.
  • Engage in typical faculty responsibilities, including advising undergraduates, participating in university committees, and contributing to departmental programming.
  • Actively support the University's commitment to liberal arts education and its Christian values. This includes mentoring students in their spiritual growth and helping them make meaningful connections between their academic discipline and their Christian faith.
  • Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline.

    Skills
  • Strong teaching skills, with the ability to make complex concepts accessible to students from a variety of academic backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with current AI tools and programs, with a focus on how they can be applied in educational settings and across industries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with faculty from different fields.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in using AI to address real-world challenges.
  • Familiarity with technological tools and platforms that support innovative teaching and research in AI.

    Experience
  • Experience using AI in educational settings and/or professional industries preferred
  • A record of successful college teaching is preferred.
  • Evidence of continued professional development, including participation in AI-related research or projects.
  • Experience in implementing innovative solutions using AI is beneficial.

    Education

    Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related field, or a relevant Master's degree with significant industry experience in theoretical and/or interdisciplinary applications of AI, is required.
