Our ideal candidate

The Business Banker I maintains a professional image and working knowledge of all products and services while representing the credit union. The role communicates the benefits of products and services to current and prospective business members to develop and maintain long-term relationships. The Business Banker I enhances the growth and profitability of business loans, deposits, and ancillary services. The role provides input to the VP of Business Services on potential new products and/or trends in the industry, acts as a liaison between credit union departments, and operates within the credit union's prescribed credit authority and risk tolerance. The Business Banker I examines and evaluates preliminary credit requests and assesses credit quality, prepares formal credit requests, and authorizes or recommends approval of member applications for business loans. The Business Banker I maintains a thorough knowledge of and compliance with credit union policies and procedures and federal and state rules and regulations.

Essential Functions A typical day might include the following

  • Follows a program of conducting scheduled sales calls and site visits, documenting all calling activity in the client management system.
  • Develops and manages a deposit portfolio to include selling and maintaining cash management relationships and merchant services.
  • Consultatively interviews applicants and provides timely follow-up to answer questions, gather credit and financial information, and obtain credit reports for loan requests.
  • Seeks out and delivers results-oriented sales presentations to procure sales of business loans, deposits, and ancillary services to credit union members and prospective members.
  • Represents the credit union's interest in negotiating loan terms and conditions with borrowers.
  • Works with Business Bankers or VP of Business Banking in documentation review of all loan documents for accuracy, prior to closing.
  • Works with branch associates/leaders and internal departments on joint calling activity.
  • Cross-sells all other credit union products and services, providing referrals to those respective areas, as appropriate.
  • Networks with centers of influence and participates in community involvement activities to perpetuate business development and promote the credit union brand.
  • Works with Business Bankers or VP of Business Banking to understand business member loan requests.
  • Works to understand Member Business Loan (MBL) policies and procedures.
  • Actively solicits new loan requests from existing business members and prospects.

Education

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance or related field preferred.

Experience

  • 5 to 8 years of similar or related experience. of banking experience required, including leadership experience required.
  • 1 to 3 years of similar or related experience. commercial lending experience preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability in sales industry and relationship management.
  • Familiarity with banking industry.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with office suite software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention-to-detail, organization, and multitasking skills.
