What You'll Do in This Position

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) PIT Production and Operations is looking to hire summer interns for 2025. This internship opportunity is for undergraduate students currently studying an engineering discipline. This position will support various groups within the PPO organization at SRNS and will work with diverse groups of project engineers.

The Material Characterization (MC) Laboratory is seeking multiple interns to participate in multiple projects focused on a problem or problems involved with the characterization of difficult materials. Prospective interns will work alongside Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gain skills in electron microscopy, metallographic sample preparation, metallography, and mechanical property testing using nanoindentation and Universal Testing Machine instrumentation. Interns will also grow intellectually by working on stimulating projects developed by MC Lab SMEs. Deliverables produced by intern, which may include reports and presentations, will advance MC lab method, training, and procedure development.

The engineering intern will assist more senior engineers with tooling and fixturing design's supporting the machining training center.

The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.00, and may increase based on major and class standing.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. Qualifications We Require

Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Must be a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university, or within one year after finishing a degree program.

Must have completed freshman year of college.

Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing.
