SUMMARY: We are currently seeking a Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician, Senior to join our Cardiology department. This part-time (0.8 FTE) role will work weekdays with rotating start times and weekend rotation.

Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs work involving the computer scanning of 24 and 48 hour continuous electrocardiogram tapes and reviewing compressed printouts of complete 24 and 48 hour electrocardiogram tapes; and conducts stress tests and EKGS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Scans and analyzes 24 and 48 hour Holter monitors
  • Analyzes, edits, and prepares Holter and Event monitor reports for review by physician, meeting Service Level Agreement for turnaround time
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms while conducting electrocardiograms, Holter monitor application and exercise stress test
  • Explain exam procedures to patient and family members prior to beginning test
  • Inserts IV catheters for procedures in the ECHO Department
  • Transports patients if needed
  • Troubleshoots abnormal test results and problems/questions patients have with stress tests, EKGs, Holter or event monitors. Notifies appropriate physician within 10 minutes with abnormal results
  • Observes and reports patients reaction during all types of EKG testing
  • Compares current EKG to past EKGs and alerts physician as needed
  • Performs electrocardiograms in all hospital areas including the emergency room, trauma room, inpatient units and onsite ambulatory clinics as needed
  • Alerts physician within 10 minutes with critical test results and documents this notification
  • Responds to all STAT calls for EKGs meeting Service Level Agreement
  • When needed schedules EKG, Holter/event monitor appointments in EPIC
  • Organizes assigned work and accurately completes work load statistics
  • Monitors EPIC patient work list and completes EKG and holter monitor procedures. Assists co-workers in completion of the work list when needed
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new employees (both HCMC and Ambulatory Clinics) at the hospital in the performance of EKG and stress test duties
  • Acts as liaison with Ambulatory Clinics to troubleshoot equipment and problem solve
  • Adapts readily to changes in work assignments based on patient need and department priority
  • Responsible for the daily cleaning of equipment after every patient contact
  • Maintain neatness throughout the EKG department
  • Operates and performs routine maintenance on EKG/Holter and stress test equipment
  • Troubleshoots equipment in the event of malfunction. Alerts Bio-electronics for repairs if needed and communicates this to Manager
  • Build and support a collaborative team environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • One year of experience performing EKG testing
