Role Summary:

Under the supervision of the Procurement Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for the sourcing and purchasing of a large variety of complex materials and services in order to effectively support the production and maintenance requirements for the plant.

In this role, you will contribute to developing appropriate stocking strategies to effectively support production. The Buyer identifies product supply sources to review and negotiate purchase price, assists the facility with new product development, and manages supplier relationships/quality/delivery/inventory levels in accordance with plant objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this role. Other related duties may be assigned to meet the business need.

  • Purchases assigned commodities from approved and qualified suppliers in sufficient lead time to prevent material shortages and recommend cost savings when possible
  • Ensures that all activities are in compliance with company policies and practices
  • Resolves problems that arise in relation to delivery dates, quality, specifications, quantity or cost of purchased goods or services
  • Reviews requisitions and confers with departments regarding requirements, specifications, quantity and quality of merchandise, and delivery requirements
  • Recommends alternate suppliers where a savings in cost or improved delivery will result
  • Reviews and resolves discrepant invoices which are not in complete agreement with purchase orders
  • Works with Accounting to resolve billing issues / returns
  • Establishes standard costs for assigned commodities
  • Issues purchase orders
  • Negotiates prices and follows competitive bidding procedures when necessary to ensure the lowest total cost for specific materials, interacting with other departments as necessary
  • Assist in the development of sourcing strategy, negotiations, and qualifying new suppliers
  • Assist in internal periodic reviews of suppliers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to Supply Chain processes
  • Coordinate meetings between suppliers and internal team members
  • Assist with scheduling and materials management as needed

Minimum Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years' experience in purchasing and contract negotiations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Operations/Inventory Management or other related fields preferred
  • ISM certified (CPSM) or APICS certified (CPIM or CSCP) preferred
  • Prior experience purchasing raw materials and finished goods.
  • Highly experienced in working in an ERP system (NetSuite and/or Oracle preferred)
  • Willing and able to travel inside and outside the United States

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Create basic project plans, prioritize, engage resources, implement across functions & sites.
  • Address problems quickly and effectively using factual data, possess situational flexibility, know the resources to approach for efficient resolution, and drive for results
  • Learn the organization, the orthopedics business, and focus on personal growth to excel at purchasing in assigned area and expand into new areas in the future
  • Working knowledge of purchasing and planning systems (ERP)
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software including Microsoft office suite products
  • Organizational, communication, interpersonal, and quick learning skills are required
  • Ability to author document change notices and other internal process documentation
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with little supervision
