Overview

The Manager, Accounting primary responsibilities will include operational accounting and reporting, general ledger management, account analysis, external reinsurer reporting and collateral management, billings, settlements, account reconciliations as well as statutory statement close.



Responsibilities

    Assist in the preparation of and or the review of the annual U.S. Statutory and U.S. GAAP financial reports and disclosures.
  • Review and/or prepare reconciliations for accounts, ensuring the reconciliations are fully supported by robust documentation and any reconciling items are fully identified.
  • Review and/or prepare general ledger transactions, including preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of analytics for presentation to senior management.
  • Prepare statutory schedules, including NY supplement, Cyber and D&O for year-end statutory and compliance reporting.
  • Assist manager with ensuring close priorities are met and deadlines are adhered to by team members.
  • Support adherence to the company's framework of internal controls, including driving the design and execution of related controls.
  • Support customers in the business units, functions, and affiliates by investigating and resolving issues, communicating process changes as well as escalate issues to management.
  • Perform/ review routine activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and other month-end close activities.
  • Assist the Director, as needed, in fulfilling internal and external audit team's PBC requests.
  • Prepare ad hoc schedules and analyses, as needed.
  • Continually evaluate the processes and systems utilized and prepare well researched recommendations for enhancements.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business with a major in Accounting
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • 7 years of experience of insurance/reinsurance accounting experience
  • 4+ years of staff/process leadership experience
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload to meet assigned deadlines in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that highlights the individual's ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and third parties to maximize performance by improving current processes or implementing new processes as deemed necessary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of reinsurance operations including underwriting, claims, accounting, finance and associated process, controls and systems
  • Working knowledge of financial analysis and financial modeling
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the insurance/reinsurance markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Technical and/or analytic expertise that can be adapted to current technologies
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, identify problems and propose viable solutions
  • Must be flexible and have demonstrated skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, Power Point and Word
  • Strong initiative, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, plus an orientation toward continuous improvement are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with significant experience interacting with executive management and external stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, decision making, problem resolution and organizational skills
  • Process transformation and control improvement experience is a definite plus
