The Loan Syndication Operations Team Leader will be responsible for managing a fully integrated loan syndication servicing team responsible for assuring accurate recordkeeping and execution of all syndicated loan (i.e., deals) including monitoring borrowing status, preparing new borrowings, rollovers, rate sets, conversions, fees, repayments and prepayments. The Team Leader will be responsible for reading and understanding proposed Credit Agreements and deciding on how deals will be structured operationally in conjunction with Valley Credit and Lending. The Team Leader will serve as the primary contact / coordinator with the borrowers, participant bank representatives and VNB lending officers for all loan transactions where Valley serves as Agent Bank; Loan Participations Sold, Loans with multiple pricing options, and Swapped Loans. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the set-up of all new deals on the bank's syndications and accounting systems utilizing expert judgement and decision making as to how new deals will be structured operationally and booked properly on the systems.
  • Manage the processing of new drawdowns, paydowns, letter-of-credit activities for syndicated loan transactions. Coordinate daily funding requirements for all deals.
  • Oversee the calculations, invoicing and disbursement of ongoing interest and fee payments from a Borrower and/or Lender perspective including Agency and Amendment fees as well as all quarter end activity.
  • Manage and ensure all monies due and payable to the bank are collected and/or reconciled. All past-due principal interest and fees are reported, followed up on, and ultimately collected.
  • Act as the liaison to the borrowers, participant bank representatives for all syndicated loans and all loan participations sold providing servicing-related advice and guidance to borrowers and investors.
  • Through coordination with third party vendor, provide sophisticated reporting and analysis on all aspects of the deals (i.e., exposure, outstanding, fee activity, GL activity, etc.).
  • Coordinate with internal and external third-party resources in performing the day-to-day operations of customer swap servicing, including invoicing, and payments to and from both loan customers, and counterparty swap dealers.
  • When required, administer through the Datascan platform, Valley's Dealer Floorplan portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate processing, adherence to procedures, and professional interaction with Valley's dealer customers.
  • Create, develop, and implement new policies and procedures for the Loan Syndications Operations Team.
  • Adhere to all internal policies and controls, ensure external regulatory compliance where applicable.

Required Skills:
Operational Abilities
  • Ability to interpret credit agreements and related documentation (ex. Admin Questionnaire) to set-up new deals for servicing.
  • Experienced in variety of loan servicing activities including all aspects of loan funding, borrowings, paydowns, commitments, etc.
System Abilities
  • Extensive loan operational systems experience.
  • Previous use of a loan syndications system preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic loan related functional problems/issues.
Key Competencies
  • Comprehension of differences between Commitments, Outstandings, Pro-Rat Calculations, Availability, etc.
  • Loan Administration knowledge, ability to read and interpret a variety of credit and participation agreements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Builds positive relationships, shows a high level of Initiative and desire to learn and grow, Team Player.
  • Basic PC skills including general understanding of databases; highly experienced with Excel.
  • Excellent mathematical skills. Ability to work with complex figures.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Required Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years' experience with loan syndications and participations.
