Associate Development Officer
University of Minnesota Law School

The Associate Development Officer is responsible for:

  • Soliciting leadership annual gift commitments from alumni and friends of the Law School.
  • Qualifying prospects that have been identified but who have not received personal attention from the Law School in the past
  • Supporting volunteer fundraising committees for milestone reunion classes

The University of Minnesota Law School successfully completed a comprehensive campaign in 2021, raising $106M on an $80M goal. We are now in the bridge period before we begin the next major campaign. This person is a critical member of the development team, ensuring the Law School is able to further its ambitious goals.

The position reports to the Director of Development. Some limited regional travel may be required as well as occasional evening and weekend activities. Salary is dependent on education and experience with the hiring range being $62,000 - $68,000 annually, with additional earnings potential through the Annual Incentive Plan. The majority of the work is in-person with some remote flexibility.

This is a full-time, 100%, annually renewable, academic professional position

Responsibilities

  • Identify with the Director of Development, UMF Research, and other sources, a donor prospect pool of approximately 100 Law School alumni and friends. Make a minimum of 125 substantive donor contacts each year with identified prospects. Work to move these prospects through the process from qualification to solicitation of gifts of leadership annual gift for identified Law School priorities.
  • Follow up with correspondence, phone calls, and additional in-person or virtual visits as appropriate to close gifts.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for each prospect, including ways to increase involvement of donors and prospects in the activities of the School and assigned departments. Make assessment calls, cultivate, solicit, provide recognition and appropriately steward gifts.
  • Research and develop proposals and supporting materials (recognition opportunities, etc.) for use in soliciting gifts for fundraising priorities in consultation with the Director of Development, Advancement team members, and /or faculty leaderships and University administrators as appropriate.
  • Staff and support key Law School reunion gift committees and other volunteers directly engaged in fundraising for major outright and planned gifts for the Law School. Solicit outright and planned gifts from reunion classmates identified by their peers as having the capacity and willingness to give.
  • Develop gift proposals, memorandum of agreement and other written correspondence and gift documentation.
  • Provide regular reports on the progress and results of the prospect solicitation process and portfolio. Complete and file thorough reports of all contacts in a timely manner in the Donor Management System (DMS). Review research reports and information from the University donor management system database on assigned donors and prospects.
Qualifications

Required-

  • Completed Bachelor's degree;
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in areas such as development/fundraising which may include stewardship, annual giving, cultivation and/or solicitation; or related experience in marketing, sales, or public relations;
  • Project coordination experience including managing within tight timeframes and budgets;
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities;
  • Demonstrated success in working in a team setting;
  • Experience in coordinating volunteers or similar constituents; demonstrated ability to motivate and lead people and to work collaboratively;
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills with a diverse constituency of donors, faculty, strategic partners, volunteers and UMF staff. Demonstrated experience and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace with individuals with diverse identities and underrepresented groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in our CRM software and donor databases.

Preferred-

  • Experience in a large, complex university setting is desired;
  • Affinity to the University of Minnesota.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $62,000 - $68,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
