Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking Medical Office Assistant - Physician Desk, also known as "Desk MOA", and "Medical Services Coordinator" to work full-time at the Peoria clinic. This position is responsible for assisting providers and nursing staff in clerical duties related to patient care.


Responsibilities

  • Complete, process and verify for accuracy any forms, letters or other patient-initiated documents in accordance with established procedures. Create and send patient correspondence as needed including distribution of sympathy cards to patients as needed.
  • Order, consent, track and scan results for Foundation Medicine & Molecular testing.
  • Maintain files and records in a confidential manner and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Answer telephones, receive and send faxes, record messages in the EMR and provide routine information to RN and providers as needed.
  • Assist RN staff in addressing QCLs and gathering information as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals with external facilities. (i.e. blood transfusions, hydrations, oxygen, hospice, home health, patient supplies and medical equipment) Scan, organize and provide paperwork for Medical Marijuana to providers.
  • Assist in administrative functions as directed by RN or provider.
  • Perform all other duties as

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires sitting at desk for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Requires occasional bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The employee has limited exposure to toxic substance and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such.
  • The employee is exposed to communicable diseases and other conditions common to the clinical environment.
  • Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent contact with staff and patients.
  • Work may be repetitious, and in a high-stress environment.
  • Contact may involve dealing with angry and/or upset people.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

three (3) years of experience in a clinical medical office

Certified Medical Assistant "CMA" or Certified Nurse's Assistant "CNA" preferred.
