Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Qualifications for Employment

Education (Minimum Requirements):

Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field with counseling coursework.

Employment Experience Preferred:

Minimum of one year of working experience in education, student development, counseling, or outreach services with diverse and non-traditional post-secondary populations preferred.

Pertinent Other: Must be interested in and committed to working as part of a team to support student development. Excellent customer service working with diverse communities using patience and active listening. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to share complex information with a diverse population.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Student Development Specialist reports to the Dean of Student Development/Director of the Center for Careers and Transfer and/or their designee and performs the following duties within the Student Development Unit:

1. Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence informed best practices and programming to foster student development, with a focus on wellness, mental health intervention/prevention, persistence, retention, and achievement of desired outcomes.

2. Supports students in developing academic, personal and career success plans focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities to facilitate reaching personal, education and career goal attainment.

3. Assists in developing and delivering trainings for faculty and staff on matters related to multiple aspects of student wellness, development and success.

4. Provides informational presentations to students and prospective students about student development offices and support offerings.

5. Collaborates and partners with interdisciplinary campus groups to develop comprehensive student development intervention, outreach ad programming.

6. Assists students with basic needs insecurity connect to internal and external supports Communicates with outside social service agencies in preparation for referrals, and makes referrals where appropriate.

7. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies in preparation for referrals, and makes referrals where appropriate.

8. Represents Student Development on internal and external committees focused on student needs, persistence, retention and success.

9. Provides support to students in crisis to deescalate and develop a plan moving forward.

10. Provides support in other Student Development offices as needed.

11. Provides data and reports based on student support and outreach efforts as requested.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time 37.5-hour work week position that will require occasional evening and/or weekend work with a salary range of $47,500 - $51,500.
