SITE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT

The Site Operations Department is responsible for the overall health of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and performance of all data modules in our data centers. The team is staffed 24 x 7 onsite with Critical Facility Engineers (CFEs) on each shift. This team is the face of Vantage to our customers and the first line of defense regarding the uptime of our campus as well as the performance of our customer installations. Using a Critical Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and track work needed, the Site Operations department performs all preventative and corrective maintenance. Our culture expects and rewards team performance that engages directly with the customers and the facility infrastructure. This is a team that does most of the actual work versus calling upon vendors. As a result, we provide superior service that is faster and more cost effective

Position Overview

This role can be based in Ashburn, Virginia

We are seeking a motivated Critical Facilities Engineer Intern to join our Site Operations team and contribute to the reliability and performance of mission-critical data center systems. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about cutting-edge infrastructure systems, develop technical skills, and gain hands-on experience in maintaining and operating critical facilities.

Essential Job Functions

System Operations and Maintenance:

  • Work alongside Critical Facilities Engineers to ensure the uptime and reliability of the data center.

  • Support Critical Facilities Engineers in operating, maintaining, and repairing critical Data Center Systems, including UPS, PDUs, diesel generators, chillers, and CRAHs.

Safety and Emergency Response:

  • Assist in responding to safety and emergency situations, while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.

  • Assist in coordinating with vendors to ensure safety protocols are followed and critical equipment is protected.

Documentation and Procedures:

  • Participate in creating and reviewing MOPs (Methods of Procedures), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures) to support maintenance and repair activities.

Learning and Development:

  • Learn and develop knowledge of critical infrastructure systems managed by the Site Operations team.

  • Adapt to changing priorities and workflows with guidance.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Work effectively with team members and occasionally interface with external vendors to support operational goals.

Additional Duties:

Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year university pursuing a degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or similar field.

Experience:

  • Rising Senior status

  • Minimum GPA requirement - 3.0

  • Previous Internship experience preferred

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Basic understanding of Electrical and Mechanical Systems (Ohm's Law, Refrigeration Cycle, etc)

  • Eagerness to learn about operating and maintaining critical systems

  • Familiarity in utilizing hand tools and industry standard equipment to the upkeep of critical systems

  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, collaborative attitude

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficient with all aspects of modern working practice and tools, including MS Office, MS Teams.

Additional Details

  • Hourly Range: $20.00 - $25.00

  • It is estimated that the internship will run from June 2, 2025, to August 15, 2025.
