JMT's Richmond Office is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Project Engineer in our subsurface utility engineering (SUE) group.

Position Summary: Responsible for subsurface utility engineering tasks using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Assemble field data, records research, oversee utility designation work, prepare test hole forms
  • Provide quality control and quality assurance on all project work



Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.
  • General understanding of SUE plan preparation using Inroads/MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction regulations
  • Familiarity with SUE equipment, field and office procedures, vacuum excavation desired



Preferred Experience



  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Supervisory experience
  • PE or EIT
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • Proficient in discipline specific design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Written and oral communication skills



Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
