Air Products has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Advanced Control Engineer working onsite at our Global HQ in Allentown, PA or Pasadena, TX location.

The Advanced Control Engineer is responsible for building, implementing, and maintaining the Advanced Control applications for our HyCO, ASU and Liquid Hydrogen facilities in North America. These applications are used to perform on-line optimization of our operating facilities and are implemented using a combination of Regulatory and Model Predictive Control techniques.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to identify optimization strategies for new and existing facilities.

  • Build Advanced Control applications which perform on-line plant optimization based on the established optimization strategy for the plant.

  • Monitor the applications to ensure optimal plant operation going forward.

  • Perform routine maintenance for the applications as necessary: updating the plant models, implementing modifications to the optimization strategy, incorporating best practices, and installing software updates.

  • Provide support to Plant Process Engineering and Plant Operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve process operating problems including product quality, plant efficiency, reliability, and operability issues.

  • Work with the global Advanced Control team to develop and deploy standard practices.

Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering.

  • 5-10 years of Process Engineering, Operations Process Engineering and/or Advanced Process Controls Engineering experience.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with plant operators, process control engineers, production engineers, plant process engineers and plant management.

  • Desire to identify, develop and implement performance improvements for Air Products' plants.

  • Valid Drivers' License and good driving record required.

  • US Passport or the ability to attain one.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of HyCO or ASU Plant Operation.

  • Experience developing and implementing plant optimization strategies.

  • Experience implementing performance improvements in operating plants.

  • Experience using Aspen DMCplus or DMC3 Software to build and deploy Advanced Control applications

  • Experience using Matlab and Simulink to develop and test control strategies.

  • Experience using commercially available steady state flowsheet simulation and process modeling software.

Work Hours / Travel Requirements:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday

  • Typical Hours: Business Hours

  • Work Model: Onsite, some flexibility

  • On-call: Yes, 24/7, rotation

  • Travel Percentage: ~25%

  • Travel Locations: ex. TX, LA, CA, Canada, to Operating Facilities primarily in North America.

  • Travel Duration: ex. a few days to 10-days
