Location: Remote (US Based Locations)

*Salary Range: $81,910.40 - $113,942.40

ELIGIBLE FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

PURPOSE: Perform radiation dose reconstructions for claims in support of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Dose Reconstruction Project, and in accordance with the applicable requirements of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000.

JOB DESCRIPTION: In support of the NIOSH Dose Reconstruction Project, the candidate will identify radiation exposure pathways, estimate internal and external doses for workers using project-approved methods and complex tools, and develop a draft dose reconstruction report that describes the approach used to estimate the worker's dose. Due to the variety of sites involved and professional judgement needed, work will be challenging on a day-to-day basis. Our team is located in a variety of locations across the U.S. and the successful candidate gets to work with a multi-disciplinary group of scientists and engineers.



Responsibilities

    Apply methods for estimating the external and internal dose levels of ionizing radiation incurred by workers in the performance of duty for the Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies.
  • Utilize project documents, procedures, reports, applicable records, and tools to reconstruct occupational external and internal radiation doses to the organ(s) of interest.
  • Use of the Integrated Modules for Bioassay Assessment (IMBA) software to calculate intakes.
  • Use of the Interactive Radio Epidemiological Program (IREP) to calculate the probability of causation.
  • Write a detailed report that clearly and accurately reflects the methodologies used in the dose assessment.
  • Provide high-quality and accurate dose assessments in a timely manner.
  • Use various databases to retrieve data, check claims in and out of the system, and obtain specific claim information.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or directly related field and 3-5 years of job-related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience requiring similar knowledge, skills, abilities, and performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • Knowledge of internal and external dosimetry practices
  • Technical ability to effectively manage large data sets
  • Some knowledge of statistical analysis and methods
  • Ability to meet frequent deadlines under production pressure for conducting dose reconstructions for new and reworked claims under the EEOICPA.
  • Understanding of DOE's radiation monitoring programs
  • Strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to plan work daily to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Proper handling and safeguarding of protected and unprotected Personally Identifiable Information(PII)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI level security clearance.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
