Position Highlights |
The Data Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the College of Medicine - Tucson's academic programs by providing analytical expertise, data-driven insights and facilitating evidence-based decision-making. Key responsibilities include designing and managing data dashboards, collaborating with stakeholders, and supporting the student assessment and program evaluation system. The successful candidate should possess proficiency in visualization software (Power BI), strong statistical analysis skills, and the ability to work well independently and on a team that consists of graduate students and College of Medicine staff and administration. This position collaborates closely with stakeholders to collect and organize data from disparate sources in the development of a longitudinal, all-encompassing data repository related to the medical education program that can be easily accessed and comprehended by stakeholders and the analytics team. This includes the design, management, and optimization of data dashboards, ensuring effective monitoring of the learning environment, student assessment, program evaluation, and education program compliance. In addition, the position will assist in the development and management of student assessment, program evaluation, and program compliance systems. Duties & Responsibilities |
Data Analysis/Dashboard Design and Management:
- In aim to improve the medical education program, perform analysis using various techniques to identify data patterns and trends. Interpret the findings and create reports, as needed.
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards from multiple data sources using visualization software (Power BI).
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and create visually compelling dashboards.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility within the reports and dashboards.
Stakeholder and Team Engagement:
- Work closely with academic leaders, faculty, and staff to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable insights.
- Provide training and support to stakeholders on dashboard usage and interpretation.
- Work as a part of a team that includes staff, administration, and graduate students.
- Assist with performing administrative functions, as needed.
Student Assessment and Program Evaluation:
- Assist in the design, implementation, and management of student assessment and program evaluation processes.
- Assist in the design and modification of questionnaires as well as other data collection such as sampling instruments or data summarization methods, procedures, and/or reporting formats.
- Analyze student performance and program evaluation data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with curriculum committees to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend enhancements.
- Assist in the development of written operating procedures and perform quality control checks to ensure procedures are followed.
Program Compliance Systems:
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems that ensure compliance with accreditation standards and medical education program policies.
- Monitor program compliance metrics and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Longitudinal Data Repository:
- Support the ongoing development and maintenance of a comprehensive longitudinal dataset.
- Manage and integrate data from various sources (e.g., student records, assessments, surveys) to facilitate research and strategic planning.
- Implement data quality control measures to enhance data reliability.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Advanced skill with statistical methods (e.g., hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling, factor analysis, cluster analysis, survival analysis, propensity score matching, etc.)
- Advanced data-management skills (e.g., data extraction, transformation, data integrity, database design and planning [e.g., table structuring, one-to-many relationships], etc.)
- Knowledge of principles and techniques within education/medical education statistics. Knowledge of data collection, management, and analysis and ability to apply methods appropriately.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis (at least several types of regression) using syntax/coding.
- Proficiency in quantitative statistical software packages and relational databases (particularly
Excel, R, Python). - Proficiency in visualization software and dashboard creation in Power BI.
- Skilled in analyzing and evaluating quantitative data.
- Skilled in report writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, is required.

Preferred Qualifications |
Education:
- Master's degree in Data Science or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience:
- Prior experience in research, institutional research, or analyses.
- Prior experience working in a higher education environment.
- Prior experience working with medical education data.
