Project Manager
Job Summary **This position is contracted at a 40% appointment and will end one year from the date of hire
Applies extensive knowledge as a research professional with an in-depth understanding of statistical and / or other analysis techniques designed to support research projects of broad scope and complexity. May function as a team lead.
The Project Manager will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator. In this role, the Project Manager will be responsible for developing protocols, IRB submissions, interview guides, and will be responsible for participant recruitment, conducting interviews, coding, and analyses. The Project Manager will conduct ethnographic research at the beginning of the evaluation to understand the community. They will use their qualitative research expertise to design the ethnographic research criteria and objectives. The Project Manager will be responsible for ordering and maintaining project supplies and incentives and oversight of the budget. The Project Manager will conduct qualitative interviews, develop the qualitative codebook, conduct data analysis and interpretation, develop survey instruments, and maintain close relationships with funder and other partners. The Project Manager will have expertise in qualitative data analyses and will apply this expertise to understanding themes that unfold from the research. The PM will use the analyses to develop reports and presentations.
The Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the study. The Project Manager will ensure all study activities are following the Institutional Review Board approved protocol, supply management, and conducting quality assurance practices. The Project Manager will also work on other qualitative research studies as they arise. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $110,400 - $172,900 (Annual Rate). Department Description The UCSF Division of Health Equity and Society (DHES) at San Francisco General Hospital is part of the UCSF Department of Medicine. The DHES carries out actionable research to advance health equity. The DHES is home to the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative (BHHI) which provides accurate, timely policy-oriented research about homelessness for local, state, and national policymakers and practitioners. The Division is also home to Amend a public health and human rights focused program that works in prisons and jails to reduce the debilitating health effects of these facilities on residents and staff alike, while simultaneously joining policy makers and community leaders to demand a better, new system of accountability and healing with human rights and health at its center.
The Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative (BHHI) is an academic program with a focus on developing and disseminating evidence-based solutions to prevent and end homelessness. The BHHI aims to make an impact on homelessness by advancing and transforming policy and practice through 1) conducting rigorous assessments of the available research on interventions and policies to prevent and end homelessness; 2) conducting research on high impact policy and programmatic questions; 3) developing a long-term research program by leveraging resources of BHHI to obtain sustainable funding from outside funders including NIH; 4) disseminating findings to key decision-makers in the public and private sectors, practitioners, and the general public through a strategic dissemination strategy; 5) providing policy translation at local, state, and federal levels; 6) developing and maintaining relationships with a broad array of stakeholders; and 7) training the next generation of policy oriented researchers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and five or more years or relevant experience and / or equivalent experience / training.
- In-depth knowledge of research function.
- Advanced skills associated with qualitative research including: interview guide development, qualitative coding, and analysis
- Advanced skills in qualitative analysis and consultation.
- Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
- Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team.
- Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
- Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research.
- Previous experience managing and leading research studies or public health interventions focused on vulnerable populations, such as those who are homeless or who have mental health or substance use problems.
- Experience working with homeless communities
- Experience conducting survey research
- Experience conducting qualitative research
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Experience using REDCAP or similar data capture
- Experience with Dedoose or other qualitative data analysis program
- Experience with Access
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree, and/or PhD, in related field
