The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science is a special project department housed under the Office of Research on the UCI Campus. The UCI CTSA is one of 62 NIH-NCATS funded institutes in the US. The ICTS Mission is to improve health and healthcare by catalyzing translational research across the spectrum and by advancing the science of translation. The cohesive theme of ICTS is to build, track, implement, and evaluate sustainable programs that advance innovation, quality, efficiency, and value of translational science across the broad spectrum of clinical research. The ICTS functions as a local centerpiece for the national program, and we are dedicated to advancing scientific discovery and medical breakthroughs. Collectively, our goal is simple: to accelerate these discoveries from the lab and translate them into life-altering medical care.

The ICTS Education Unit is a facet of the Workforce Development Core within the ICTS and is tasked with managing all training and educational opportunities, workforce development activities, managing pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and junior faculty research activities through NIH-funded awards, managing the Medical Student Research Program and associated NIH-funded awards, developing and enhancing the training environment for underrepresented researchers at all levels through the NIH Diversity Supplement mechanism, and all other tasks dedicated to the training and education of clinical and translational scientists, researchers, staff, and students at UCI. The Education Unit also hosts monthly workshops, seminars, and didactic and asynchronous learning opportunities for trainees and scholars conducting clinical and translational research. Essential functions of the unit include staying on top of NIH grants policies and procedures, development and implementation of NIH grants, and assisting trainees, scholars, and faculty with the creation and submission of research grants.


Your Role on the Team

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, program management, and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation. Participates in leading meetings when required, providing written and oral reports on the status of various ICTS operational programs. The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks and operational management of the ICTS MSRP (Medical Student Research Program) and multiple educational grants, including T35 NRSA awards and diversity supplements. They will be responsible for ERA Commons activities, including appointing students, sending reminders, and tracking requests. They will aid the Education Director in planning coursework and evaluating coursework for the future. They will interface directly with students and other education grant awardees and troubleshoot questions and provide resources. They will also help the Education Unit develop grant applications and implement those grants upon award to the institution. The incumbent will need to be able to adapt to the relevant requirements and standards set by the NIH as they become known, and should be highly flexible based on the needs of the Education Unit and the Workforce Development Core. Other additional training programs, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned based on need as new ICTS priorities arise.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$69,500- $$96,500 (Annual).

Required:

  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, RedCap, Smartsheet, and other documentation software programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including making presentations to high-level faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses. Strong interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, and leadership.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Ability to work in a team environment with multiple deadlines and conflicting priorities.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques. Knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3-5 years working in an education environment

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 1-3 years experience with grant development and education/training grants

Special Conditions:

  • CA Drivers License for travel between Irvine and other UCI locations for meetings and events
