Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a New Patient Registrar to work at our Peoria clinic. The New Patient Registrar is responsible for the new patient registration process including verifying all patient demographics in the electronic medical record (EMR) & billing software, assisting patients with completing new patient registration forms, and copying insurance cards and ID. You will also check-in patients, guests, and all who enter the main Peoria campus.


Responsibilities

  1. Greet and receive all who enter that enter the main Peoria campus including patients, family members, guests, and general public.
  2. Check-in all patients & verify demographic information before sending them to the next department.
  3. Complete New Patient registration process for Peoria & clinic patients including the completion and signatures of all paperwork, copies of insurance cards and an ID, as well as obtaining a patient photo for the chart and updating the information to the EMR & billing software.
  4. Responsible for explaining and obtaining signatures on Patient Financial Agreement, HIPAA (Privacy Notice), E-Prescribing Consent form and Release of Medical Information form.
  5. Escort/transport patient as necessary to other designated areas such as the Lab, Pharmacy, and pods.
  6. Ensure the timely and accurate registration of patients by obtaining and processing demographic, financial and clinical information in an efficient and professional manner.
  7. Review schedules & Real Time eligibility software for changes of insurance and process those changes.
  8. Identify indigent/potential reimbursement problems and direct information. Provide information to the patient about Financial Hardship.
  9. Follow-up with clinic staff and patients to ensure completeness of data obtained.
  10. Assist with basic billing questions and payments, walk in patients, yearend/first of the year insurance rush.
  11. Assist with duties of all positions of the Patient Registration Team of which includes Front Desk, New Patient Registration & New Patient Scheduling positions.
  12. Adhere to the ILCC employee handbook, HIPAA policies and ILCC code of conduct.

Other Duties

  1. Works alternating hours weekly and additional hours when requested by supervisor.
  2. Maintains Missing PCP report when sent out by supervisor.
  3. Perform all other duties as requested or required.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Requires full range of body motion including assisting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  2. Requires sitting at desk for extensive periods of time.
  3. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  4. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  5. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  6. Requires some bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. The employee is exposed to communicable diseases and other conditions common to the clinical environment.
  2. The employee has limited exposure to toxic substances and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such.
  3. Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
  4. Work is performed in an office environment with frequent contact with staff and patients.
  5. Work may be repetitious, and in a high-stress environment.
  6. Contact may involve dealing with angry and/or upset people.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Three to five (3-5) years of previous medical office setting experience preferred.

Medical terminology, computer experience, customer service experience desired.
