The Opportunity

The College of Business at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer and program director of the Institute for Risk Management & Insurance Education (IRMIE) co-located on the UCF main campus and the UCF DirectConnect campus in Daytona Beach, FL. The teaching load for this position is expected to be one course per semester. Teaching needs will likely include risk management and insurance, wealth management, and other finance, marketing, and management-related courses.

The Institute for Risk Management and Insurance Education provides professional, educational, and applied research programming to support the risk management and insurance industries in Florida. The goals of the Institute are to:


  • Pursue technological innovations that advance risk valuation models and operational efficiencies in the insurance industry.

  • Drive the development of workforce competencies in data analytics, system-level thinking, technology integration, entrepreneurship, and actuarial science. Leverage the UCF's world-class assets in data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, finance, economics, and sales.

  • Take advantage of the UCF's robust portfolio of academic program offerings and draw on faculty and industry experts in diverse fields, including actuarial science, computer science, economics, engineering, environmental science, finance, forensics, law, management, marketing, and psychology.

  • Develop and offer risk management and insurance education, including education that recognizes risks in areas such as the environment, pandemic disease, and digital security.

  • Offer programs, workshops, case studies, and applied research studies that integrate technology and artificial intelligence with soft skills while preparing students and professionals for the technology-enabled insurance industry of the future.


The Institute's activities include coordinating degree-granting and non-degree-granting programs, enacting applied research, administering industry-specific professional and continuing education, and facilitating support of early-stage business development with UCF's Volusia campus and Daytona State College.

Job Responsibilities Include:


  • Overseeing academic programming development in Risk Management and Insurance, including a B.S.B.A. to be developed and offered on UCF's main campus as well as on the UCF DirectConnect campus in Daytona Beach.

  • Support the development of a portfolio of educational programming options to support workforce readiness and professional development for the risk management and insurance industry.

  • Conduct, coordinate, and oversee applied and translational research addressing industry issues and challenges, fostering collaboration with faculty and industry partners.

  • Strengthen UCF's connection with major employers and insurance industry partners including the companies that are on the Institute's founding advisory board: Foundation Risk Partners, Brown & Brown Insurance, Assured Partners, and Security First Insurance.

  • Act as the Chief Fundraiser for the Institute, collaborating with the Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives to establish fundraising priorities and goals. Engage in business development discussions to foster long-term partnerships and significant investments, building and cultivating executive-level relationships with corporate partners.

  • Articulate and implement the long-term vision and goals for the Institute, managing ongoing operations of various components. Create and execute strategic engagement plans, measuring progress and reporting regularly to senior leadership. Lead strategic projects in alignment with university initiatives and policies, providing direction, delegation, collaboration, and assessment.

  • Provide exceptional leadership and management of the Institute's staff and faculty, recruiting and empowering staff to accomplish the Institute's and UCF's goals. Coordinate activities with partnering departments, external stakeholders, sponsors, and advisory boards.

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Institute's strategy, representing its mission publicly. Manage strategic partnerships with state agencies, business and industry leaders, philanthropic partners, and national organizations. Facilitate local and state conferences, seminars, and events to promote professional development.

  • Lead the overall planning, function, and long-term support of the Institute, establishing a sustainable business model. Support the Institute in implementing a strategy aligned with UCF's goals for student success, research, innovation, and excellence.

  • Maintain AACSB qualifications to teach at the undergraduate level; ability to teach undergraduate courses in business, risk management, and/or insurance.


Preferred Skills


  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for building and maintaining executive-level relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with key stakeholders.

  • Proficient in prioritization and organization with regards to work demands, multiple projects, and other resources.

  • Maintain AACSB qualifications to teach at the graduate level; ability to teach graduate courses in business, risk management, and/or insurance.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Master's degree (for Instructor), Ph.D. or D.B.A. (for Lecturer) in business, risk management and insurance, finance, economics, accounting, or closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution or a JD in a related field. Degrees must be obtained at the time of application.

  • Demonstrated experience in program development and professional leadership.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Director-level experience in insurance, business development, program management, financial services, or enterprise sales.

  • Proven track record in corporate partnerships, business development, or a partnerships-focused environment with successful fundraising or sales and revenue diversification experience.

  • Ability to align corporate partnerships with the university's strategic goals through an understanding of university-industry collaboration and revenue generation.

  • Experience working in higher education or a research-driven institution with a familiarity of university policies and procedures.
