Position Summary
The primary location of this position is on the main campus in Cullowhee, NC.

The College of Engineering and Technology ( CET) at Western Carolina University ( WCU) is growing! We are recruiting for a faculty position in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, at the rank of assistant or associate professor of practice. Responsibilities include teaching; advising; course and curriculum development; and engagement with regional business and industry. Research and scholarship opportunities are also available.

Professors of Practice routinely teach in multiple topical areas at the undergraduate and graduate levels in electrical and computer engineering. For this position, candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are highly desired:

  • Cyber-Physical Systems
  • Digital Twins
  • Embedded Control Systems and Verification (Hardware-in-the-Loop)
  • Machine Learning
  • Quantum Computing, Sensing, Communications
  • Semiconductor Devices (Simulation, Characterization, Reliability)
  • Wide Bandgap Power Electronics


This is a nine-month fixed-term position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice. Rank will be determined at the point of hire. The anticipated start date is August 2025.

Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field is required prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following:

  • A PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field
  • Three or more years of relevant industry experience
  • University-level teaching experience
  • Expertise in multiple areas
