POSITION PURPOSE Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SCADA Technician to support our Substations department. As a SCADA Technician at MGE, you will assist in the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of radio, fiber-optic, cellular, and other control systems and the associated electronic equipment used in the protection and control of electrical power systems. WORK SCHEDULE
- The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Employees are expected to be reasonably available for overtime work and callouts.
- Residency expectation is to be able to respond to calls within 45 minutes.
SALARY
- The starting pay for this position is $41.81 per hour.
- Candidates with relevant experience may be considered at a higher level. Salary is commensurate with grade level and related work experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Installation and Configuration
- Monitors SCADA system performance, including data acquisition, alarms, and status updates, to ensure all processes are running as expected.
- Configures and troubleshoots alarms, triggers, and events within the SCADA software to detect system anomalies or failures.
- Preventative Maintenance and Repair
- Diagnoses and resolves technical issues related to SCADA hardware, software, or network components.
- Performs preventive maintenance on SCADA systems, including updating software; replacing faulty equipment; and testing radio, fiber-optic, and cellular communication systems.
- Emergency Response
- This position may be required to respond to SCADA system failures, network outages, or alarms that may disrupt operational processes.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a technical or vocational program in electronics, electrical engineering, or a related field is required.
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of electrical circuits, control and communications systems, and protection relays.
- Familiar with PLC logic and programming.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols.
- Familiar with radio, fiber-optic and cellular communications equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and control logic.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including potentially extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and near high-voltage equipment.
