The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Immunology Discovery

Department Summary

We are interested in understanding the mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases of the airways particularly COPD. Our lab focuses on exploring fundamental alterations in the airway epithelium developed during the course of the disease. Utilizing cutting-edge experimental and analytical methods, we aim to model airway epithelial dysfunction in COPD, as the third global leading cause of death, and discover specific targets to improve epithelial functionality.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Involved in literature review and experimental design

  • Performs 3D cell culture in air-liquid interface (ALI) system

  • Contributes to in vitro functional, protein, and RNA assays

  • Collaborates with other team members

  • Leads analysis and presentation of the data in oral and poster formats

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree (enrolled student)

  • Must have attained a Master's degree

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required majors: Cell Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Bioengineering.

Required skills:

  • Advanced understanding of cell molecular biology

  • Ability and passion to work at highly collaborative and fast-paced environment

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Experience on working with in vitro 3D cell culture models

  • Experience with routine cell molecular biology experiments including RNA and protein based assays including but not limited to qPCR, IHC, ELISA, and Wester blotting

  • Biostatistical and computational data analysis

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $40.00- $45.00 per hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
