Overview This position is responsible for providing application support to critical information systems utilized by Electrical Engineering and the Control Centers. Clean Energy Solutions Specialist dedicated to the integration development of ADMS with the Company's the Oracle Network Management System ("NMS"), new Geographical Information System eGIS, Power Engineering Planning tools and Distributed Energy Resource Management modules deployment. This position is also responsible to design, implement, and maintain databases, displays, and applications related to the distribution automation systems and processes.The Distribution Control Center ("DCC") use the ADMS system to monitor and control distribution automation devices. This system provides the DCC with visibility into the distribution system.The ADMS and DSCADA systems will support the objectives of the New York Public Service Commission ("PSC") Reforming the Energy Vision ("REV") initiative for Distributed System Platform ("DSP") enablement, as documented in the Company Distributed System Implementation Plan ("DSIP"). Distribution automation with centralized model-based control is a cornerstone to O&R's support of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act's ("CLCPA") goals and principles. The engineer will be responsible for completing all system modifications by adding, modifying, and configuring distribution automation devices which are introduced onto the Distribution System. This includes devices connected to the system to monitor and control Distributed Energy Resources ("DERs").
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- This position, under Engineer supervision, is responsible for Developing and configuring data views for Operators of the ADMS system and GRID engineers. Providing distribution automation new device commissioning, control, and alarm documents for the field technicians and Distribution Operators.
- Under Engineer supervision developing and maintaining data maps, alarms, and events for new and existing equipment such as Volt VAR Optimization (VVO) controls, electric grid sensors, and distributed generation (DG) interconnections.
- Support ADMS connectivity based on the Grid Mod 4G/5G Communication Component Testing
- Support ADMS modeling and application functionality
- Works with vendors and evaluates new systems for inclusion into operations and engineering platforms.
- Manages installation of vendor products. Supports and maintains vendor packages in production. Performs high level applications testing for technology upgrades as necessary.
- Collaborates with users to prepare requirements for enhancements to existing systems and the development of new systems. Assists with programming specifications based on system design.
- Works as a liaison between project teams, contractors, as well as appropriate Company departments (Engineering departments, R&D, Distribution Engineering, Control Centers and emergency responders, etc.) to coordinate and complete projects.
- Assists in the development of scripts to automate processes and share data across departments and applications.
- Performs testing and troubleshooting of problems found in the system's environments. Works with teams to develop appropriate plans and processes for the coordinated sharing of data, based on the requirements of departments, systems, and users. Configures and maintains data, databases and displays related to the ADMS processes and interfaces.
- Familiarity with construction and/or the electric utility industry.
- Installs, configures and updates applications used to manage historical SCADA/DSCADA data.
- Supports applications and databases used for managing, planning, and control of electric utility infrastructure.
- Provides on call support to DSCADA system on rotating basis.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Any Discipline and 2 years work experience with Information Technology or
- Associate's Degree Any Discipline and 4 years work experience with Information Technology or
- High School Diploma/GED Any Discipline and 6 years work experience with Information Technology
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or Information Systems and 2 years work experience with Information Technology
Relevant Work Experience
- Technical experience in operations, engineering, system operations, or information systems. Required and
