Overall Summary:

The Supervisor, Underground to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical systems for Duquesne Light Company (DLC). Reporting to the General Manager, Underground, the supervisor will oversee field crews, ensure compliance with safety standards, and coordinate projects to meet operational and regulatory requirements.

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Preble Service Center

Job Responsibilities:



  • Directs the construction and maintenance activities of field personnel to ensure maximum productivity, promote and enforce safety & achieve expected levels of performance.
  • Directs the scheduling & assignment of daily work to the Senior Splicers and other crew members to ensure timely completion of the work assignments.
  • Directs the proper & safe utilization of tools and mechanized equipment to ensure employee & public safety while achieving maximum productivity.
  • Interface with contractors, other utilities, customers, government bodies and all Duquesne Light Company departments to ensure cost effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Provide timely field data to ensure accurate accounting of plant records. Directs timely ordering of materials and supplies to ensure maximum use of all resources.
  • Conducts training, development and counseling of personnel in the T&D Department to ensure the continuing development of individual skills for maximum job performance and to prepare the individuals for greater responsibilities.
  • Requires all personnel to follow all Company and Department procedures & regulations including all safety requirements.
  • The T&D Supervisor is required to be the "Duty Supervisor" on a rotating basis as well as rotating onto nights for weeks at a time



Education/Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Five (5) years related experience required.

    • Experience in underground construction, maintenance or operating experience will be given enhanced consideration.
    • Qualified Unrestricted Journey Splicer preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of Duquesne Light Company and government regulations including the National Electric Code is preferred.


  • Valid driver's license required, commercial driver's license preferred



Skills & Abilities:



  • Must be able to work in all types of weather extremes.
  • Must be able to make clear concise decisions under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Ability to supervise, evaluate, train, and motivate employees.

Physical Requirements:

Normal office environment, some travel to different company service locations Must have the ability to participate in field visits to work sites with less the desirable conditions, including but not limited to climbing ladders, walking in wooded areas, or visiting hazardous locations Must be able to work extended hours in emergency situations. Extensive driving (including off-road) during normal and emergency conditions.

Work Environment:

Position is consideredfully on-site, meaning this position will generally perform all duties at a company location and/or in the field. Reporting location may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Scope:

Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution for areas managed. Trains and develops staff. Plans the workflow. Directs available resources to accomplish process improvement. Leads workflow changes and implementations for direct team.

Decision Impact:

Problems and issues are undefined require detailed info gathering, analysis, and investigation to understand/resolve. Makes decisions that address workflow issues considering immediate impact on own function or work unit.

Storm Roles:

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company. Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service, or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities, and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
