Executive Director, Laboratory and Pathology Services

This position oversees the comprehensive operations of Laboratory and Pathology Services within a Level 1 Trauma Center:


  • Reporting to a Vice President, the Executive Director will strive to create and maintain excellence within clinical practice, testing accuracy, reporting, and compliance to ensure optimal patient care.


  • Seeking a knowledgeable leader who will be able to efficiently facilitate coordination and communication with executive leadership, staff, and physicians to ensure a positive and collaborative work environment.


  • Promote collaborative communication amongst internal and external stakeholders.


  • Ensure safety and quality and highly reliable behaviors amongst staff and leaders.


  • This Executive leader will develop and maintain processes and methodologies to adhere to College of American Pathology (CAP) and Joint Commission regulatory and compliance standards.


  • Responsible for the fiscal oversight throughout the department and will optimize cost effectiveness and service quality while developing processes pertaining to cost containment.


  • The Executive Director will facilitate logistical operations within supply movement and specimen logistics and will effectively resolve any quality, system, or operational setbacks.


  • The Executive Director will utilize measurable benchmark outcomes to analyze areas of improvement including operational efficiencies, quality, timeliness, and cost-effective resource utilization.


  • Responsible for the development of strategic plans that meet community, organizational, and departmental goals.


Ideal candidates will have 6+ years of experience in an acute care laboratory setting, along with proven experience in laboratory management and/or hospital administration.

The department includes over 200 full-time employees (FTEs) across the following areas:


  • POCT Client Services
  • Blood Bank


  • Bacteriology


  • General Chemistry


  • Hematology


  • Phlebotomy


  • Serology


  • Neighborhood Clinic and Long-Term Care Facility


  • Anatomical Pathology


  • Cytopathology Lab

ExecutiveDirector of Operations


  • Develops and leads long-term strategic goals that align with the Health System's overall mission, vision, and strategic plan.


  • Tracks, networks, and applies industry trends and best practices to enhance professional standards.


  • Oversees and manages operational budgets, ensuring accountability and achievement of efficiency targets.


  • Establishes and monitors the strategic direction for patient safety, quality care, and workplace safety initiatives.


  • Oversees the daily operations and tactical execution of laboratory practices.


  • Manage personnel recruitment and retention efforts.


  • Promotes positive employee relations and implements strategies to enhance staff engagement.


  • Ensures daily execution, monitoring, and auditing of staff performance to guarantee adherence to quality standards.


  • Optimizes workflowofkeypracticesin the department


  • Acts as the operational decision-maker in collaboration with the Vice President of Clinical Ancillary Services.
