The Senior Sonographer is responsible for the following:
  • Performs routine and complex ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
  • Reviews and evaluates requisitions for ultrasound imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts and determining appropriateness of procedure prescribed given diagnosis and clinical signs for routine examinations.
  • Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
  • Assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and ability to respond to instructions and develops plan for adjusting to patients' specific needs.
  • Follows QC/Data Integrity Workflow process.
  • Practices High Reliability Communication techniques. Patient/Family/Team Relations
  • Responds to the uniqueness and clinical condition of the patient.
  • Creates a supportive environment for the patient and the family.
  • Promotes a positive work environment in compliance with ETU. Equipment
  • Identifies and reports on equipment malfunctions.
  • Assists in patient scheduling and facilitates efficient workflow within ultrasound area (board runner).
  • Investigates and resolves technical and scheduling issues and performs designated quality assurance functions.
  • Provides instruction on performing ultrasound procedures for trainees and fellows.
  • Serves as a resource and responds to requests for information or assistance. General
  • Participates in departmental and hospital meetings
  • Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complies with ETU.

  • Furthers professional education and maintains knowledge of current regulations and standards, policies and procedures.
  • Takes an active role in research projects involving ultrasound.

The Senior Sonographer is responsible for the following:

  • Registered by the ARDMS.
  • Must meet, successfully complete, and maintain the ARDMS certification and registration.
  • BLS certification
  • Associates degree in Medical Sonography
  • 3 years of experience as a Sonographer
