Laboratory Research Technician III

***This position requires an active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret clearance to be considered. ***

Provide support with laboratory experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and thus must hold and maintain BPRP status, IAW the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations. Aid in the execution of scientific studies, basic cell culture, and plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Laboratory Technician III Research Technical Support: $ Pay commensurate with experience.

Laboratory Technician III Research Technical Support Responsibilities Include:

• Supports small and large animal studies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories.
• Performs inoculations with virus, vaccine, or applicable testing material.
• Collects tissues for processing and conducts blood sample collection.
• Performs in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against a variety of viruses.
• Prepares cell culture media and other study supplies, including paperwork, as necessary.
• Performs immunological procedures including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western Blot assays.
• Performs basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), PCR, and other assays to support NHP and rodent studies.
• Performs basic lab management duties, such as assessing, maintaining, and ordering lab supplies.
• Assists with annual conduct of Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2 and BSL-3.
• May serve as a BSL-2 mentor.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Laboratory Technician III Research Technical Support Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

• Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field and 1+ years lab experience.
• Skilled with basic Molecular Biology Assays: ELISA, Western Blot, Plaque Assays, PRNT assays, PCR, etc.
• Skilled with animal handling for large and small animals, including NHPs and rodents.
• Ability to perform animal inoculations, blood and tissue collection, and sample processing.
• Working knowledge/ability to learn GFEBs ordering system.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a high paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Prior experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs preferred.
• Ability to pass a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for participation in the BPRP.
• US citizenship.
• Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
