Position title: Associate Dean for Health AI Innovation & Strategy and Director, UCLA Center for AI & Smart Health Salary range:
The salary will be commensurate with academic rank and experience. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 - Summary. The salary range for this position is $350,000-$650,000. This unique position offers the opportunity to shape and drive AI vision and strategy for the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) and ensure translation of innovation in our renowned Health system. This collaborative leader will work with academic leadership, faculty, staff and trainees to harness the power of AI to transform biomedical research, decision and implementation science, and precision health. UCLA Health comprises the UCLA Health System, the David Geffen School of Medicine, and the Faculty Practice Group. It is one of six health systems in the University of California, and encompasses 34,000 employees, 4,700 total faculty, nearly 1,500 residents and fellows, and 5,100 nurses. It is co-located with the UCLA campus, with its 33,000 undergraduate and 13,000 graduate trainees. The UCLA Health System includes 5 hospitals and over 280 clinics in the region which support 3.6 million outpatient visits each year. The David Geffen School of Medicine includes 24 departments, 9 research institutes and 4 research centers, and is among the nation's leading medical schools. Key Responsibilities: * Identify large-scale team-science funding opportunities for AI-driven healthcare solutions and stimulate submissions across DGSOM and UCLA. * Identify translational and commercial opportunities for DGSOM research in health AI, fostering partnerships with industry, startups, and technology leaders. * Coordinate, promote, and ensure the success of innovation and entrepreneurship in health AI, working closely with the DGSOM Dean's Office and other stakeholders within the institution and its affiliates. * Actively extend DGSOM's commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) through initiatives that promote fair and equitable use of AI in healthcare, including championing the ethical, fair, and just use of AI in clinical trials, research studies, education, clinical operations, and other emergent application areas, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and regulatory requirements. * Provide guidance around educational opportunities with the use of AI in medicine. Working with other stakeholders, ensure strong educational programs. * Promote collaboration among DGSOM staff, faculty, and trainees engaged in research and innovation related to AI in healthcare and build strong collaborative relationships with professional organizations related to health AI such as the American Medical Informatics Association and AI in Healthcare Coalition. * Work closely with the Chief Health AI Officer to ensure strategic alignment between the DGSOM and the Health System.
