Job Purpose

"Total quality mindset" and effective "corporate social responsibility" are two key corporate goals of AHM. This job contributes to these goals by enabling the Tax Department to accurately report and pay its income tax liabilities to various income tax authorities and also to accurately report on income taxes in its financial statements for the benefit of internal and external stakeholders. This position enables AHM to meet its legal and regulatory requirements in order to be a "company that society wants to exist." This role is responsible for preparing timely and complete quarterly and year-end income tax provisions in compliance with IAS 12, FAS 109 and SOX Sec. 404 for AHM, and complete and accurate federal and state income tax returns / workpapers for AHM and the AHM sub consolidation by internal due dates. This position requires tax provision and compliance technical proficiency, substantial experience in identifying and resolving complex issues, and excellent tax quantitative and reporting skills.



Key Accountabilities

  • Independently prepare complete and accurate federal income tax returns and state income tax workpapers for AHM and/or AHM and Subs/Affiliates, and other entities as assigned by internal due dates. This includes reviewing workpapers provided by accounting and external advisors for accuracy and corresponding with them to resolve discrepancies. It also includes staying up to date on tax law changes and using sound judgement to apply the changes timely and appropriately.
  • Independently prepare complete and accurate quarterly and year-end consolidated and/or separate company income tax provisions and schedules by the deadlines given by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. "HM". This includes reviewing workpapers provided by accounting and external advisors for accuracy and corresponding with them to resolve discrepancies. It also includes staying up to date on financial accounting and tax law changes and using sound judgement to apply the changes timely and appropriately.
  • Research new business activities and new general ledger accounts and use professional knowledge and experience to determine tax impacts and develop new processes and calculations for these changes.
  • Use professional knowledge and experience to ensure that the tax provision processes and documentation meet the requirements of IAS 12, ASC 740 and SOX Section 404.
  • Independently prepare complete and accurate quarterly income tax estimates and annual income tax extensions for AHM and/or AHM and Subs, and other entities as assigned by internal due dates. This involves understanding current market conditions and applying professional judgement on how to forecast annual taxable income.
  • Complete other assignments by deadlines established such as: Research issues; Respond to tax notices; Assist in gathering information for IRS or state income tax audits; Perform quarterly and annual SOX 404 Controls; Daily maintenance of Tax Calendar and Assignment Listings. This involves independently prioritizing and managing competing projects to meet internal and external deadlines.



Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field (required)

CPA certificate preferred (equivalent experience acceptable)

Master's Degree in Tax a plus

3+ years work experience in a medium to large sized CPA firm (min of 2 years in Tax preferred) and/or Tax Dept of a medium to large size multi-state corporation

Experience must include preparing federal and multi-state corporate income tax returns

Working knowledge of federal and multi-state income tax laws and rules

Working knowledge of business combinations and eliminations

Working knowledge of federal and state credits and business incentives

Working knowledge of IAS 12 and ASC 740 is a strong plus

Good accounting skills and understanding of accounting systems

Must be proficient in use of electronic tax research (Checkpoint/CCH), tax return preparation software (OneSource Tax Provision and Income Tax) and Microsoft applications (Excel and Word), experience with Alteryx and Microsoft Power Platform a strong plus

Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and project management skills
