Our Mission: Our Vision: Position Summary: The Public Safety Assistant Supervisor, under the general direction of the Public Safety Supervisor, is responsible for directing, supervising, training, disciplining and providing a leadership role to the public safety department and to preserve and maintain a crime free environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests. The Public Safety Assistant Supervisor is a uniformed university employee who will perform law enforcement services to the Alliant International University community and to its surrounding areas. Additionally, the Assistant Supervisor will assist the Supervisor to create a university-wide safety culture through safety training, risk assessments, and behavior modification programs and manages system wide emergency preparedness programs and will provide system wide support. Starting Salary: $22 an hour ($42,900 annualized), 37.5-hour work week. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, or related field preferred. Experience: Three (3) years supervisor experience; Three (3) - five (5) years basic law enforcement experience preferably in a higher education institution setting. Certifications, Licenses, etc.: Basic Introduction P.O.S.T. PC 83, Registered California Guard Card, Baton Permit, OC/Pepper Spray Permit, CPR/First Aid License, California Drivers License and valid automobile insurance Skills: * Competence with Microsoft Office applications and radio communication systems. * General knowledge of penal codes and local laws. * Ability to effectively work with local law enforcement agencies. * Knowledge of how to use a fire extinguisher and activate fire, or other alarms. * Ability to make decisions based on personal or general experience when dealing with the general public. * Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. * Self-motivated and needing little supervision. * Strong skills in setting appropriate priorities, managing work schedules, and providing oversight for multiple, complex projects covering a wide range of operational responsibility. * Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background. * Proven ability to work effectively as a team player. * Highly motivated, focused and results oriented. * Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts, and to maintain confidentiality at all times. * Ability to manage multiple tasks according to required deadlines. * Maintain composure under high stress conditions. * Ability to be optimistic, positive and supportive in all interactions with others. * High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Contact Responsibility: Internal: Interacts with supervisor to receive general direction and instructions and/or review of work results. This position will work closely with colleagues in multiple departments to assure student, employee and public safety. External: Local law enforcement agencies Primary Work Location, Hours & Travel Requirements: Office Location: On Campus. Work Hours: Standard 7.5-hour shift, but may be morning, evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. as Public Safety Officers patrol the University property 24/7. Travel: None.
