Job Summary

The Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, seeks applications for a research-focused Postdoctoral Fellow in Information Technology Management (ITM). The initial appointment is for one year and may be renewed for up to three years, depending on satisfactory performance. The postdoc can begin as soon as January 2025 or as late as August 2025 - we are happy to accommodate the timeline that works best for the selected candidate.

Research Focus

The role involves close collaboration with the ITM area faculty on mutually selected research projects in the Economics of Artificial Intelligence. Two preferred areas of focus for our group:

  • Studying the AI industry, such as documenting technology firm strategies, characterizing the sources of innovation, and other critical dynamics shaping firms in the AI space. Particular interest includes characterizing strategic differences between large companies and startups, analyzing how labor flows between companies and institutions influence the development of AI technologies, documenting the interplay between the public and private sectors and its effect on innovation, and establishing the critical role of open-source software in this nascent technology.
  • Studying the impact of AI technologies on modern business. This includes analyzing how AI affects firm strategy, such as changes in decision-making processes and competitive dynamics. We are also interested in labor outcomes, specifically how AI impacts different types of workers, who can best leverage AI, and how expertise interacts with these technologies.

We are primarily interested in producing empirical research that contributes to journals in Economics and Management. We are particularly interested in candidates who share our passion for (recursively) applying AI to study AI by applying frontier AI technologies as a research tool to capture signals in large datasets.
