Position Summary

This position will be responsible for the prescription of technical solutions, technology support, training delivery, and IT project management for specifically assigned departments and units within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). It is also a valuable member of the CAES Office of Information Technology (OIT) Athens Campus Operations Team routinely staffing the CAES IT Service Desk. The position is based on the UGA Athens Campus and reports to the OIT IT Manager for Athens Campus Operations. It works collaboratively with other IT professionals associated with both the Athens Campus Operations and the Field Service Operations Teams.

This is a specialized, highly-responsible position with a broad understanding of information technology in the modern enterprise. This IT Professional is expected to be the local IT expert for the units and departments it serves having the ability to prescribe, configure, secure, deploy and support software, hardware resources, server and storage systems and networking infrastructure. A person in this position will be able to strategically evaluate and prescribe technological solutions necessary to meet the operational needs of the department while adhering to the requirements of existing laws, standards and policies. Tactically, the IT Professional in this position will be capable of triaging technological issues; reconciling competing priorities, communicating effectively; demonstrating exceptional customer service; and exhibiting the capacity to independently research, assess and adapt to changing technologies.

Consult with clientele to assess operational requirements for technology systems and services, evaluate options for addressing the client's needs and recommend appropriate solutions. Establish and nurture vendor relationships and partner with appropriate UGA entities to best facilitate the evaluation, specification, procurement and deployment of information technology resources and solutions. Assist the organization in performing life-cycle management, inventory control and the surplus of information technology resources.

This includes support and maintenance of some legacy systems supporting laboratory instrumentation.
