What You'll Do in This Position

Begin to plan and develop IT solutions to technical task or project objectives. Provide tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, project coordination, and configuration management for complex IT solutions. Assist more senior technical personnel in performing network and telecommunications activities in more complex tasks and begin to provide guidance and technical expertise to junior personnel. Systems may consist of servers, desktops, storage devices, data center components, utility software, or equivalent infrastructure components.
Comply with team processes and practices for execution of assigned tasks.
* Maintain technical expertise in assigned emphasis areas and demonstrate flexibility in multiple disciplines.
* Complete assigned administrative tasks in a timely and quality fashion.
* Proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT to provide support for assigned areas.
* Incorporate conventional systems engineering practices into problem solving and program planning. Perform detailed system hardware/software troubleshooting.
* Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and/or customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections to focus areas and solve problems.
* Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates.
* Ensure appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem.
* Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness.
* Maintain system security through access monitoring, control and evaluation.
* Maintaining documentation and configuration information.
* Shift schedule is determined by job assignment and may include off hours schedule.
* Assignment may include 24x7 support as part of an on call rotational assignment.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

High School Diploma, GED, or other equivalent State Credential

Qualifications We Desire

Experience in Unix server systems engineering, systems hardening and vulnerability management. Experience in installing and configuring Red Hat Linux servers on physical equipment as well as virtual platforms. Experience with Ansible, containers/OpenShift, UNIX shell scripting, VMware, Azure, and HP server hardware a plus. Routine exposure to Unix systems administration in conjunction with development, application, web, open source, Cyber, or other primary experience in a Unix environment would also be considered. Candidate should possess good communication skills both verbal and written, be self-directed and have solid team performance. A college degree and experience in related assignments Knowledge of academic as well as practical aspects of Systems Engineering. Ongoing technical development in Systems Engineering. Detailed technical knowledge base of hardware/software concepts, interfaces, principals and techniques. Ability to apply formal training. Awareness of industry standards and emerging directions in systems engineering.
