What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS's NNSA Operations and Programs operates the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise, the nation's only facilities for extracting, recycling, purifying and reloading tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen that is a key element of modern nuclear weapons. Savannah River Tritium Enterprise (SRTE) supports five tritium and gas transfer system-related missions on behalf of NNSA: Tritium supply, stockpile maintenance, stockpile evaluation, helium-3 recovery, and research and development (R&D).

This position serves as the Manager of the Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) Field Support group and is responsible for managing personnel providing support to the projects in the SRTE facilities. The position manages activities and implementation of site policies associated with fire protection and must often interact with peers and customers with respect to specific implementation issues:

1. Manages activities of individual contributors in the Fire Protection Engineer group .2. Acts under direction of immediate manager. Decisions have effect on the success or the failure of specific objectives. 3. Implements training program for subordinates to ensure the development of necessary qualifications. 4. Provides advice and direction to less experienced personnel.5. Uses the application of innovative concepts to solve problems.6. Works to implement change. 7. Possesses excellent communication skills and the ability to influence audiences at a wide range of levels.

This position will also be responsible for managing SRTE Fire Design Authority Group to ensure that the facility technical baseline is maintained in the Nuclear Facility and within the Safety Basis requirements.

Other responsibilities will include the following:

* Provide mentorship for Fire Engineers of varying experience levels and provide necessary advice to management on technical issues.
* Point of contact for various fire related issues for SRTE facilities
* Managing issue/response to all independence assessors (i.e., IEB, EA-31, NNSA, Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, etc.) on FA-12 related SRTE issues.
* Be the liaison for SRTE to resolve local questions related to Fire issues.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Desire

Fire Protection Engineering Experience at a DOE site and/or in the nuclear industry. Knowledge/Understanding of Safety Basis, SRNS Engineering Standards (E7), SRS fire design authority, Tritium Facility, fire startup, management of Fire DA and Qualified Fire Protection engineers. Bachelor's or master's degree in an Engineering discipline.
