The Supervisor, Production Operations will oversee the day-to-day operations of the production media lab within the Supply and Quality Management team (SQM). The function of this lab is to manufacture and sustain a supply of high-quality reagents for use by Broad's research community, as well as to provide glassware washing and sterilization service. The incumbent will supervise and mentor the team of individuals working in this lab and coordinate the daily workflow.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Writes protocols for the production of both custom special-order solutions, as well as new items that will become standard offerings to the community.
- Ensures adequate supplies of produced solutions, media, and poured petri dishes are available for the research community by determining which items need to be made each day.
- Assists with Quality Control procedures for produced materials, including troubleshooting any quality issues that may arise.
- Reviews produced batches for approval daily, and releases approved batches for consumption.
- Supervises a team of Lab Assistants and Glasswash Technicians with professionalism and effective communication
- Evaluates employee performance, and provides feedback including writing employee reviews and identifying goals
- Ensures process changes and policy changes are understood and adhered to.
- Tracks employee PTO and coordinates overtime staffing as necessary
- Forecasts staffing needs and ensures that they are in keeping with team goals
- Interviews applicants for team positions and provides/coordinates training for new team members
- Coordinates daily workflow for team members
- Ensures that all used glassware is collected from all building locations, and is washed, dried, and sterilized by appropriate personnel daily.
- Facilitates troubleshooting of issues with lab equipment, and schedules repairs and PMs as needed.
- Manages quarterly cycle counts on chemicals used in batch production, and assists with investigating inventory discrepancies
- Ensures compliance with biosafety and housekeeping guidelines and regulations.
- Performs calibration of quality control instrumentation on defined periodic basis.
- Assists with manufacturing of produced materials and glasswash procedures as necessary.
- May perform other tasks as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- BS/BA in Biology or Chemistry +3 years experience, or equivalent
- 3+ years experience in a laboratory environment
- Prior workflow coordination and leadership experience.
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
- Must have a strong customer focus.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and resolve problems professionally
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in written format
- Understands basic principles of chemistry
- Has strong technical writing skills
- Able to work independently as well as in a team
- Must be comfortable with multitasking
- Must have strong computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with SAP ERP system
- Familiarity with Google Workspace Apps
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed onsite in a laboratory environment and requires performing a variety of physically
intensive tasks. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 30lbs.
Also requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
