Position Highlights |
The John and Doris Norton School of Human Ecology is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice to teach traditional and online courses in the Personal and Family Financial Planning program (PFFP). The position will involve 75% teaching, 15% Financial Technology Lab management, and 10% service. This is a 9-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment (non-tenure-eligible); additional summer teaching opportunities may be available. This position is central to the teaching mission of the Norton School and involves teaching courses during fall and spring semesters, management and outreach development, and service.
The successful candidate must be committed to the pursuit of teaching excellence with a strong desire to enhance the existing PFFP degree program and to develop new program initiatives, including, but not limited to, a new Financial Technology Lab, student mentoring/coaching and industry partnership development. Duties & Responsibilities |
Duties and Responsibilities
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards, Inc. approved curriculum. Courses include fundamentals of financial planning, tax planning, investments, risk management and insurance, retirement planning, estate planning, law and ethics, fiduciary responsibility, and the Capstone course.
- Provide management and leadership over new Financial Technology lab for PFFP students, including programmatic structure and materials for peer-to-peer coaching.
- Actively participate in instruction, including serving on academic, industry, and student committees, and provide leadership in professional organizations.
- Participate in advising and mentoring students, including directing and supervising required external industry internships.
- As needed, develop and teach online coursework for various program initiatives (i.e., Arizona Online, Arizona Distance campuses, others) as directed by the Director of the School;
- Serve on academic committees as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Demonstrated ability to teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to design higher- education coursework both in a traditional and online format.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills, and experience working collaboratively within industry and/or higher-education.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Law degree (J.D.)
- Experience with estate planning
- Experience with financial technology and the financial technology industry.
- Strong teaching and student mentoring experience in a traditional and online classroom setting in a college/university setting.

Preferred Qualifications |
- CFP and/or CFA certification.
- Proven dedication to land grant mission.
- Established capacity to cultivate relationships with industry partners.
- Recognized leadership in pertinent financial services organizations (FPA, AFCPE, NAPFA, etc.).<
- Experience guiding program development, growth, and student recruitment.
