How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Mechanical Engineer Co-Op at SPX Cincinnati Fan, you have the potential to take part in a three-pronged rotation in engineering CAD design, manufacturing process improvements, and sales providing technical support for representatives and customers. This unique experience offers an opportunity to learn the different facets of a business with multiple semester rotations.

What you can expect in each of these roles (Job Responsibilities)

Design Engineering Role



  • Provide support with a focus on engineering changes
  • Aid in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Advance product documentation in the engineering department
  • Generate bill of material, implementing updates
  • Design and model new productsusing 3D and 2D CAD



Manufacturing Engineering Role



  • Primarily assigned to work in the day to day operations of Manufacturing and Quality departments
  • Provide support on continuous improvement projects in manufacturing processes
  • Creation of work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Assist, as needed, with and 2D CAD drawing
  • Potential work with robotic welding, CNC machining, welding and/or laser cutting processes



Technical Sales Application Engineering Role



  • Acting liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales
  • Aid in the development of solutions for internal and external customers
  • Preliminary development and pricing of product design
  • Generate alternatives to product requirements to keep reasonable manufacturing schedules
  • Compile and distribute technical data to sales representatives and customers



Education and Experience



  • Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • A strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
  • Able to clearly articulate data and information between departments
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to clearly present technical information
  • Must have the ability to work independently or in teams, be able to prioritize own work, and meet agreed timelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Proficient in 3D modeling (prefer Inventor) and use 2D AutoCAD
  • Safety oriented, placing safety as priority in all work performed

  • Lifting to fifty (50) pounds with assistance

  • Plant environment with potential exposure to harsh weather, excessive heat/ cold, and/or excessive noise
  • Follow all safety rules and adhere to core value of business
  • Travel is not required
