The Opportunity:

The Global Sr. Director of Environmental Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability (EHS3) is a strategic leader responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability programs across the organization. This role requires a visionary leader who can maintain and enhance a world-class EHS3 culture by implementing innovative and proactive solutions aimed at reducing workplace injuries, illnesses, and environmental impact. The Sr. Director will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, NFPA, and PSM (Process Safety Management) standards, while driving continuous improvement in Risk Management Systems (RMS) and Behavioral based Safety. S/he is responsible for overall direction of the safety and environmental compliance program by eliminating, preventing, or reducing the occurrence of safety, health, medical, environmental, and regulatory issues enterprise wide. Reports to the Global VP Engineering and EHS3.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Advanced degree (master's or Ph.D.) in a related discipline is strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS: Some of the required/preferred certifications

  • Certified Safety Professional
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • HAZWOPER
  • Lean Six Sigma

EXPERIENCE:

  • 18+ years of related experience; 10+ years of leadership responsibility managing others.
  • Experienced in implementing world class safety programs and developing and mentoring others.

THOSE NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB COMPETENTLY:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, production, distribution, and general chemical/pharma industry Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Working knowledge of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices
  • Working knowledge of: ISO requirements, OSHA, EPA, local governing agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage others and gain their buy-in on issues or in situations where there is no direct line of authority.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making and analytical skills
  • Strong people management skills and ability to assess performance of direct reports.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups.
  • Ability to prioritize the department's work and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of technical issues and concepts associated with EHS, security and sustainability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to develop and communicate a clear vision for EHS&S that aligns with the company's overall business strategy.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve high levels of performance.
  • Deep understanding of EHS&S principles, regulations, and best practices, particularly in the areas of PSM, Behavioural Safety, and RMS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Ability to lead change initiatives and manage the impact of change on employees and the organization.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and industry groups.
  • Up to 40% travel, including international.

HOW YOU WILL THRIVE AND CREATE AN IMPACT:

  • Establish and communicate a clear vision for the EHS&S department aligned with the company's mission, values, and goals. Lead the development and implementation of strategies that drive EHS&S excellence and foster a culture of safety, security, and environmental stewardship.
  • Enhance global EHS3 strategy and 5+ years road map. Hire, train and retain EHS3 associate, and increase knowledge expertise.
  • Provide direction, mentoring, and development opportunities for the EHS&S team. Build a high-performing team by fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
  • Work closely with the executive leadership team to integrate EHS&S initiatives into the broader business strategy. Advocate for EHS&S considerations in all business decisions, ensuring that safety, security, and sustainability are prioritized.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's PSM programs. Ensure compliance with OSHA's PSM standards and other relevant regulations to manage hazards associated with highly hazardous chemicals.
  • Develop and implement innovative behaviour-based safety programs that engage employees at all levels in identifying and addressing unsafe behaviours and conditions. Promote a culture of accountability where safety is viewed as a shared responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, federal, and international regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies. Stay current on emerging regulations and industry standards and adjust company policies and practices as needed.
  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive risk management systems (RMS) that integrate risk assessment, control, and monitoring into all aspects of the business. Ensure that the company's RMS is robust and responsive to changing conditions and emerging risks.
  • Oversee internal and external audits and inspections related to EHS&S. Ensure that findings are addressed promptly and that continuous improvement efforts are documented and implemented.
  • Sustainability Strategy: Develop and lead the company's sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with global best practices and industry standards. Drive initiatives that reduce the company's environmental footprint, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource conservation.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and standards, including those related to air emissions, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials. Lead efforts to reduce environmental risks and improve environmental performance.
  • Sustainability Reporting: Oversee the development of sustainability reports that communicate the company's environmental performance to stakeholders. Ensure transparency and accuracy in reporting and use the reports to drive continuous improvement in sustainability efforts.
  • Lead the development and implementation of crisis management and emergency response plans. Ensure that the company is prepared to respond to a wide range of potential security threats and emergencies.
  • EHS&S Innovation: Drive innovation in EHS&S by exploring new technologies, methodologies, and practices that can enhance safety, security, and sustainability performance. Foster a culture of continuous improvement where new ideas are encouraged and tested.
  • Ensure that EHS&S goals, strategies, and achievements are effectively communicated to all employees. Use a variety of communication channels to keep employees informed and engaged in EHS&S initiatives.
  • Regularly report to the executive leadership team on EHS&S performance, including progress against goals, emerging risks, and areas for improvement. Provide strategic recommendations based on data and insights.
  • Develop and manage the EHS&S budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support strategic priorities. Monitor spending and ensure that the EHS&S function operates within budget.
  • Stay abreast of international environmental, health, and safety regulations and ensure company-wide compliance.
