The broad interests of the Sheynkman Lab involve the study of protein isoforms that arise through the process of alternative splicing, and how this process can create diverse protein isoforms that direct or contribute to cellular functions, particularly within disease and developmental contexts.
Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years1 and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period. In order to obtain such vantage of these protein isoform dynamics, research within the Sheynkman Lab capitalizes on cutting-edge technology as offered through long-read RNA-sequencing and mass-spectrometry based proteomics to connect the transcriptome and proteome to support systems biology studies of isoform dynamics. In addition, the Sheynkman lab supports analysis of these diverse data types through the creation of bioinformatic pipelines and tools to support the integration of transcriptomic long-read RNA-sequencing derived data and mass-spectrometry based proteomic data. The aims of this research are to provide critical information to profile how protein isoforms contribute to regulatory networks and therefore can be associated with the progression of disease states.
