Job Summary
#CA-DC The primary role of this position is to provide direct supervision and oversight for the Lift Technicians, Mental Health Workers, Patient Transporters, Special Duty Caregivers, Telesitters, and Volunteers.
The Lift Team performs patient handling activities for inpatient departments/units using SPH techniques and equipment in collaboration with the RN and other healthcare providers.
The Mental Health Worker (MHW) team assists professional and technical personnel in the observation of patients, some of whom may require continuous, intermittent, or video observation. MHWs also help to ensure that a calm, safe setting is maintained while gaining insight into treatment options for patients and participating in patient's treatment planning with nursing staff and doctors.
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Special Duty Caregiver (SDCG) team assists professional and technical personnel in the observation of patients, some of whom may require continuous, intermittent or video observation. The goal of observation is to prevent harm to the patient and to reassure patient of safety and prevent removal of tubes or special devices that may result in a negative medical outcome. #CA-DC Apply By Date 12/11/2024 by 11:59pm Minimum Qualifications
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR Certification, or equivalent UC Davis issued CPR certification.
- Required University-provided training and testing (i.e., lift equipment/assistive devices, proper body mechanics, etc.)
- Required University-provided training and testing Code Blue Training.
- Required University-provided training and testing Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training.
- Required University-provided training and testing Maintaining the Dignity of Morbid Obesity in the Hospital setting.
- Required University-provided training and testing Restraint use and application.
- Bachelor's Degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training.
- One year of leadership experience.
- Experience conducting group and individual training sessions.
- Experience safely operating safe patient handling and movement equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and non-powered patient equipment.
- Experience safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and special beds.
- Experience in recognizing and reporting problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition.
- Skills to supervise a technical team and to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Supervisory skills related to recruitment, organizing, scheduling, and assigning work, training and evaluating work performance, implementing counseling, discipline and corrective actions.
- Strong knowledge of patient care support activities, systems, external regulations. and internal policies.
- Knowledge of Fair Labor Practices, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and University policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to exercise discretion, use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Skills with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Solid interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
- Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound Judgment during medical emergencies.
- Knowledge of and experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and non-powered patient equipment.
- Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques. and skill to transfer patients without injury to self, patient or others.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate Infection Control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients.
- Knowledge of O2, IVs/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes.
- Strong computer skills including EMR, e-mall, PC based programs, and MS Word and Excel applications.
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
- Skilled in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex clinical and technical Information In a clear and concise manner, and to produce a variety of reports and analyses.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Ability to use a calculator and possess basic math skills.
- Ability to maintain a culture that values diversity, respect and accepts the contribution of others, and supports open communication.
- Knowledge and skills to perform CPR.
- Judgment skills to make independent clinical decisions.
- Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure.
- Knowledge of legal implications for clinical practice.
