DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a well-rounded Student Affairs expert and a practitioner of community care, the senior director of community care and wellbeing is an on-call, live-in position responsible for providing vision and strategic leadership for the office of campus safety and wellbeing, utilizing the community responder model, and the office of residential life. With regard to the former responsibility, the senior director works to maintain a safe and secure learning and work environment for all members of the Hampshire College community, as well as for guests and visitors. Additional responsibilities include the development, implementation, and management of campus safety services, resources, and educational programs, including but not limited to personal safety, dispatch and security operations, inclement weather, fire safety, disruptions in daily operations, emergency and crisis management, transportation, and parking enforcement for the College. The senior director also is a key organizer of efforts for the College's residence life. Responsible for developing residential communities that promote student success and wellbeing, the senior director supervises and leads professional staff, several of whom serve in an on-call capacity, administrative support staff, and the residence life student staff.

The Residence Life team led by the senior director serves all students, while paying close attention to the needs and strengths of students from different cultural backgrounds and identities who may require focused support and considerations in the residence life capacities. The matter of justice, equity and antiracism is dynamic, and the needs of underrepresented students are ever changing. Hence, the senior director needs to be open-minded, to enjoy learning, and be ready to adapt and evolve the offices accordingly to support students successfully.

Open to new and challenging experiences, the senior director is a student development practitioner who cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful experiences with students. This position needs to be highly visible, maintain strong connections, and work successfully with students, faculty, staff, families, and external constituents. The senior director must have experience in program design and management and feel comfortable working in an evolving, fast-paced, organizational framework with shifting responsibilities.

In leading a community responder department and applying trauma-informed and community care practices, the senior director will work with a campus safety and wellbeing team that aims to promote equity, justice, and antiracism. Under the direction of the senior director, the residential life and the CSW teams will work together to serve students, particularly in the following areas: crisis response, campus safety and security, sexual misconduct/assault prevention, and conflict resolution. The senior director participates in the administrator emergency response "on call" duty rotation and as a committed member of the justice, equity, and antiracism team in college and divisional committee work, projects, meetings, retreats, and community development. The senior director also assists in the coordination and facilitation of academic courses with co-curricular activities and services for students. Applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends.
