This position is responsible for innovative design of hearing aids, hearing aid components, accessories, and new electro-acoustic products. These responsibilities extend from concept design through the TMI process, and transfer to product development teams, and/or productization. The position requires deep and broad knowledge of hearing aid products to identify opportunities and implementation of mechanical design solutions, requiring creativity and critical thinking. The position may require project technical lead responsibilities, working with a cross-functional team of engineers, technicians, and managers in advanced development, product development, and operations teams.

JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

Create innovative concept designs for standard and custom hearing aid products, accessories, and new product opportunities:



  • Use CREO design tool to create CAD models.
  • Develop Intellectual Property (IP) for Starkey by writing relevant patent disclosures.
  • Collaborate with external component and industrial design (ID) partners.
  • Facilitate design reviews
  • Verify designs meet all appearance, performance, quality, and cost criteria.
  • Document design benefits, market acceptance, and return-on-investment.
  • Guide fast prototype fabrication/assembly of product concept.
  • Organize and prepare concept design review (CDR) meetings
  • Present concept designs to Advanced Development Leadership


Technical Leadership



  • Serve as a tech lead in relevant TMI Projects.
  • Provide technical leadership as (ME) subject matter expert to TMI projects
  • Develop project plans with support from applicable tech leads and project managers. Manage work efforts to ensure project schedules are met, and areas of high risk are identified and mitigated.
  • Facilitate smooth transition of TMI project content to product development teams.
  • Provide technical mentoring to Advanced Development personnel.


TMI design development and prototyping



  • Work w/ Sourcing to identify key suppliers of prototype assembly/component fabrication.
  • Provide suppliers CAD models, documentation, and quality and performance criteria.
  • Guide suppliers in the creation of prototype molds and parts.
  • Evaluate assembly/component quality of received prototypes. Guide supplier to make needed improvements.


Keep plugged in to industry and company trends.



  • Technology scanning of new and relevant technologies
  • Attend technology seminars. Provide pertinent information to organization.
  • Interface with internal and external partners to develop new prototyping processes and technologies.
  • Participate in Technical Improvement Process (TIP) meetings with key suppliers.
  • Benchmark and explore new technologies.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field


Experience



  • 12+ years of mechanical design experience in a related industry required.
  • Background in Mechanical Design with significant and relevant industry experience


Knowledge / Technical Requirements



  • Advanced proficiency in CREO
  • Expertise in injection molding processes and tooling.
  • Expertise in materials and processes used to manufacture injection molded plastic, stamped metal, machined parts, and elastomeric components.
  • Operation of relevant test equipment
  • Experience with Product Development best practices (e.g. DFM, DOE, DFMEA, etc.)
  • Experience with acoustics and vibration analysis.
  • Ability to execute complex engineering analysis and calculations.
  • Big picture perspective of where the industry is headed.


Skills & Abilities



  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance, must be a self-starter with high initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in projects and team efforts. Includes ability to provide guidance and direction on to less experienced personnel.
  • Ability to keep current with new technologies and industry trends required.

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual starting salary for this position is between $113,960.00 $153,300.00 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
